@@duuurs globalism and multiculturalism? What does that have to do with being brave? The US for example was already multicultural in WW2 and they certainly were really brave and good troops. People from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds and countries fought hard in the war. Senegalese Tirailleurs are another example of good troops who served in many campaigns including the liberation of Southern France.

My grandfather was a officer on the eastern front. He told me much about the horrors on the front. Very harsh and scary.

my uncle was in tanks the column he was in were blown up by german 88s he survived, he remembered the solid shot of the shell penetrating into the tank killing all the other crew members as it spun around the tank interior before destroying the tank he was severely wounded and left with a withered crippled arm for the rest of his life, he was recovered and captured by the germans who treated him well, the british declared him missing in action presumed killed as when a tank goes up there aint much left of human beings inside it; a german eventually managed to write to my grandmother telling her he was alive, my father and his brothers all fought in the front line and after the war one of their closest friends was an ex german pow who stayed on in britain; as common soldiers they had no time for others who never fought in war and who would think it a gloryish event

David Gaston - This is indeed a very significant story. Even previously hostile enemies, after the war, making peace to the exclusion of those who never experienced combat, just seems so right.

My step father was a paratrooper on D-day and was shot across the legs with a machine gun before he hit the ground and soon after his foot was partially blown away by a mortar round. He said he was laughing and said that "These f*ckers are trying to kill me!" He didn't think it was funny later on. You are a real trooper.

This is the difference between his generation and the generations of today. He doesn't complain, he doesn't feel like anyone owes him anything. He is happy for the support he gets but isn't letting this get in the way of his life. So many today would be expecting everyone else to do everything else for them. @@Flying_Acehole first of all, he not just my God, he is everyone’s God and the only God. He works in mysterious ways, ways that might not make sense, but he has a path and a reason for everything. Look at it this way, maybe his legs being blown off saved him from being killed later by another shell or bullet. His injury altered and changed his path in the future. That alteration changed his whole life, and by the looks of it, it looks like he has lived a good life. Altering his path layed down the bricks to his new life and future such as wife, kids, and friends. All things I bet he will say are blessings.

Roy is the best of the best generation... The hospital and he talked about, Chapel Allerton hospital Is in Leeds And has been repairing broken Men since World War I and still does to this day....

He is the only WW2 vet I've heard of with serious injuries and still alive and also appears to be in very good health as far as I can tell. Pretty awesome if you ask me! This guy is Legendary!

Thank you for your service Brother. (Ex British and Canadian forces). We have Veterans Affairs Canada who look after the needs of Canadian Forces Veterans with similar support as you mention regarding Blesma. I feel that with there support I have a better life than having to stumble through life on my own.

Thank you Sir. You are from the greatest generation that ever lived. My Uncle also severed in WW II and it was due to his leadership and courage that gave me the courage to join the Military. Fortunately, I did not have to endure the horrors of war. I don't know what the future holds with so many young people being cowards today. Thank you again, Sir, for your service. Your service allowed my family and I to enjoy a good level of freedom.

I'm so glad I could hear this story. It's great to know such a large community cares about veterans. There are so many homeless veterans having people say that they are just masked murderers. Behind every gunsight is a human being.
