I agree with the sentiment, although funnily enough, I think A Christmas Carol is meh and forgettable, and The Snowmen is one of the few good ones! I also think the "dream becomes the dreamer" is an actually interesting idea in The Snowmen (the snow only "reflects" consciousness but was used for so long it developed one) where as it's just a pointless line that doesn't relate to the Weeping Angels' actual abilities in Flesh and Stone.

I agree it's an interesting idea. In fact, I think the reason The Great Intelligence continues using the likeness of Simeon later on is because despite becoming a separate being, it is still Simeon deep down. It grew from Simeon's own thoughts and feelings. If I remember correctly, its true voice in The Snowmen was child Simeon.

The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe was a perfect encapsulation of the Smith Era if you ask me. The whole concept of The Doctor showing up at the door of a family on Christmas and acting as this Willy Wonka-esque figure before he takes the kids to Christmas tree Narnia and the day gets saved by their mother's love flawlessly aligns with the storybook theme of 11's tenure.

Most Christmas specials aren't great imo. The only two Christmas specials that I think are really strong are A Christmas Carol and Last Christmas (fight me 😂). The first is a delightfully dark fairytale twist on the classic story, and the second is an unnerving nightmare you can't wake up from. I'm a sucker for any piece of fiction set inside dreams. The most prominent feature of my own dreams is the whole dream inside a dream inside a dream thing, and how unnerving it is not knowing if you can trust your reality, so I really love Last Christmas for playing on that fear.

I like the Doctor Who Christmas specials because they help cheer everyone up after the annual family argument.

Maybe they them once every so often or once an era because they don't really feel special at all anymore and a lot of them just blur together. The X-files only did one Christmas episode, Jonathon Creek has only done three since 1997.

I love Christmas Invasion, I don’t know why people underrate, dislike that episode. You get to spend time with Rose Mickey and a Jackie! What more do you want!!! I always thought It’d be interesting if very impractical if they did like 3 short stories of doctor who during Christmas. Like an entire anthology episode kinda like the Simpsons do with Halloween.
@plows29408 күн бұрын
Christmas invasion is one of my favourite episodes in general. The Doctor literally has a sword fight with the leader of the Sycorax and defeats him with a satsuma! Not to mention the ramifications the episode sets up for the rest of the Tennant era.

I think the only Christmas Special I actively dislike are The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe and The Snowmen. The rest are largely a bit of fun, with a few standouts like A Christmas Carol, The Time of the Doctor, Last Christmas (it's good okay!), The Husbands of River Song, and Twice Upon A Time.

The only Christmas specials I enjoy are Moffat’s. I can take or leave all of the other ones, and Voyage of the Damned is actively one of my least favourite episodes of all time. A Christmas Carol, Last Christmas, The Husbands of River Song and Twice Upon a Time are top tier though.

I'm not going to watch the whole video yet because I'm not up to that arc, but I started reading one piece recently, having heard all of the "it doesn't get good until episode 400" stuff and I found the start surprisingly good, it probably helped that I didn't know much of what was to come and was just expecting a fun kids/YA comic about a funny dude going on an adventure. I'm at water 7 now and looking back it's already evolved a ton and become something I really like It's like how I feel about the band Grateful Dead (which I've been listening to a lot lately) where you kind of have to ignore the fans saying OMG OMG BEST THING EVER!!! and just go in expecting something simple and fun and then stay with it and see if you end up really liking it

Great to see one piece back on the channel! I think the reason Thriller Bark isn't remembered too fondly is because the arc right before it is generally agreed to be the best in the series, so people were coming off of that high and going into an arc that's more of a farce. If you're taking suggestions from the comments, I think you'd really like Jaya and Skypiea which basically make up one self contained story. It's like a mix of Wizard of Oz and Indiana Jones.

I didn't get on well with Vicki. Nor Dodo. They were of the same personality. They were just.. there. To fit a gap of "youngster" without any rebellion. I hated how Ian & Barbara were side-tracked, often coupled as a double act, just so Vicki could have the Doctor protect her. I found her annoying, & she really couldn't act to save England. That stupid laugh she gives in the Chase as Ian pulls out the ring from the ground... grrrr... lol Each to their own though.

Really enjoyed the video, but I would like to mount something of a defence for Linx as a villain. I agree that the robot he constructs is pretty rubbish. But to be fair, there are loads of rubbish robots in Doctor Who. The difference is that the rubbish robots are usually quite cute so the audience cuts them some slack (chumbilees, war machines, quarks). The gaps in his plan aren't that much worse than the plotting by the Cybermen in Wheel in Space, or the Daleks in the Dalek Invasion of Earth. I see Invasion of Time as a tragedy, rather than a farce. It lowered the standard for Sontarans and Time Lords alike, gave Leela a rubbish companion exit and Gallifrey lost a lot of it's mysticism (though this was not the only serial to do such damage). Maybe there's a parallel universe where Invasion of Time was made properly; the Time Lords were still at the height of their pomp; the Sontarans invaded and successfully mounted a convincing challenge; the Vardans were a bit more convincing, but were dispatched by the end of episode 2; Leela sacrifices herself in the final struggle and we get an effective companion departure (this was how Louise Jameson wanted Leela to exit the show); and instead of running round and round the Tardis, perhaps the Sontarans could pursue the Doctor in the Matrix and we could get something more akin to the deadly assassin? Maybe some die hard fan with good writing skills is working on an utterly unauthorised piece of fan fiction that will elevate the original material? Maybe... maybe...

Series 24 is alright but it feels like it was trying way too hard to appeal to kids. The last 2 series are much better and Sylvester McCoy is one of my favourite Doctors along with Patrick Troughton and Tom Baker.

The biggest tragedy is that DW does HOMAGE BRILLIANTLY in it's good eras when everybody knows what they're doing (Robert Holmes stories always a good example). Here the influences are ruined and wasted - even the in jokes don't work (not just about Mel/Bonnie's weight but also the colours and archetypes of the Kangs are the main political parties). You could have more fun and get the same gist reading High Rise by JG Ballard whilst zapping between Question Time and Runaway (the Tom Selleck SF(ish) film which I presume was the inspiration for the robots and almost shows how good a Hollywood version of Wyatt's script would be in the right hands).

Tooth and Claw's what turned me off 10 and Rose. They gave off a kind of popular kids in-joke, we know something you don't know, arrogant, exclusionary type vibe that irked me. That and the portion of the fandom that were shipping them hard. Call me a prude, but I like my Doctor-companion relationship to be a platonic one. Having said all that, I certainly don't HATE 10&Rose.

I do like that the show acknowledges their romance is flawed from the start: - Ten explains to her in School Reunion that they can never be together forever even if they wanted to because she's a 20 year old human and he's a quasi-immortal alien, and that is the curse he has to live with - In The Impossible Planet we see that unlike Rose, Ten can't stand a domestic life so they can't settle down - Tooth and Claw shows that Rose is starting to adapt some of Ten's fascinations with danger, seeing it as excitement instead, which puts her at constant risk with him - Doomsday has Rose so scared that she's desperate to stay with him forever, and in that rush to be there with him they got separated for good

I loved Rose and 10 together. I agree seeing them in a state of grace it made the finale all the more painful. That being said, the way their relationship was written has issues and wasn't perfect like rose and 9. 10 clearly had massive comittment and emotional availability issues, and it seemed like in School renunion that was going to be his arc. Then what did he do in the season finale, he sent rose away without as much as a goodbye and got angry when she said she was never going to leave him. Rose had her problems too. She seemingly was losing touch with her humanity and becoming too much like the doctor, picking up his bad traits. She was arguably losing herself in the relationship. This was mentioned but it never led to any consequences.

I always thought 10 and rose had a childhood friend grown up mechanic in where they just acted as good friends rather than the two loving eachother. Idk i thought that was better
