If you create a series of loops-Can you record the loops in your DAW that you created? Lastly, what is the name of the Plastic cover buttons you have on your foot switches? Thanks.
@bradpaul5 ай бұрын
The video I created was using loops from the QC and recording it directly into GarageBand, however There’s plenty of ways that you can create loops in most DAWs without the QC at all; just record one part and then copy and paste it, or in some cases just hit the 4/8/16 bar loop button within the software. Are you looking to create a preset with a lot of loopers (I don’t think that’s possible in the quad cortex) or just record multiple loops from one looper into your DAW? As for the buttons they are the Mooer pedal button toppers!

How is the dropout when you change scenes? Would be very curious about the “feel.” Like with a lot of digital pedals you notice a gap between changing stuff like this. VS analogue pedals there’s no skip.
@bradpaul7 ай бұрын
There is no noticeable dropout on scenes, however there is a slight delay when changing presets. So for live gigging it’s best to use scenes rather than presets. I find it easier to use as I can hit one scene change in the QC and have multiple “pedals” switch on, where as with my “traditional” setup I’d sometimes want to switch on 2 pedals and have to switch both of them on. There are some limitations, you can only have 10 scenes per preset. So if you’re playing with 11 different effects you would have to “double up” shall we say. But there are ways around it, especially with things like reverb, IRs and captures. I had concerns about “feel” when I bought it but I honestly use it more than I use my amps both at home and at gigs. It’s a game changer; easier to setup, lighter, when using the house PA it’s louder, it’s consistent, it’s properly versatile (guitar, bass, vocals, all three at the same time haha) and then there’s the “value” thousands of amps, setups, scenes, all the price of a one decent amp?

I am curious, does the QC's Fuzz PI sounds as good (or in the same ballpark) as the Big Muff PI (opamp) you have? I am hesitating between going with the QC's Octaver + Fuzz PI or buy a Big Muff + Pico Pog? Any thoughts?

Great video! Two questions - are you running the USB out into your interface? And, do you find the gain patches to be quite noisy? I never use a Gate with my Helix, but find it necessary with the QC. Thanks
@bradpaul9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I’m running the USB out from the QC straight into a dongle, into my MacBook Air. Recorded using GarageBand. No special effects. I do tend to put a gate on, but if that makes it sound better to me it’s not really an issue as such? I know it might not seem “the way” but it is “the way” to make this work best sometimes!

Hey! Can I put two guitars and one vocal microphone in to QC?
@bradpaul10 ай бұрын
Yes you can! You just have to be careful with the CPU usage on the amps and effects for each input. You can have one guitar in input one, the microphone in input two, and the second guitar in on of the FXLoop inputs. In this video; kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoW0nml8pMpohs0si=9b3Y89KTAIBEEdY5 I don’t use a mic but have multiple guitars playing the qc at the same time. Hope that helps!

Do you have any issues running real fuzz pedals through an fx loop in QC? Like any weird sound glitches, extra buzz? I'm thinking of buying a QC but would still like to use all my fuzz pedals.
@bradpaul11 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting! I haven’t put a fuzz in the FX loop of the QC, but because you can put the FX loop at any point along the chain in the QC, you can kind of put it anywhere and see what works for you! In your explanation, would you be looking to use the Fuzz almost as “the amp” and then look to use the power amp of your amplifier? Apparently, this is also the best way to use a Boss Metal Zone! If that’s the case, the QC doesn’t split amps between pre amp and power amp within the system so there will always be a pre amp “effect” on the sound but only if using an amp in the QC chain. I haven’t tried just putting a fuzz pedal in and then having a speaker “sound” but then again I haven’t tried doing much with a “short” on KZbin. Apparently I can now reply with one of those so I’ll try and get that sound for you if you’d like to see/hear that and it gives me a chance to mess around with “shorts” a bit more! It won’t be for another day or two until I have the time though!
@Yannleon_video9 ай бұрын
I did tried in the QC loop, and if your fuzz is sensitive to the impedance, it won't work well. It sounds like when you put a buffered pedal in front of a fuzz. The only thing I put in the loop are the drives and comp. Fuzz = first in the chain, out of the loop.

Hi. Can you play a QC through an ordinary amp. Or do you have to play through a computer.
@bradpaul Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for commenting! So you can do both! I plug it via usb into my laptop, but I can also plug it straight into the front of my amp and use it like a multi effect pedal, I can plug it through the effects loop of my amp to just use the power amp of my amp to make it a full blown amplifier. I can just plug a power amp in and plug it into a speaker. I can play it through a PA system, plug in headphones, plug it into any other speaker system with an Aux adapter. Can literally play this thing through anything!

Don't even bother to learn this. Even Neural does not invest much in it. Buy a FM9. That thing is awesome and gets regular updates- will be around for the next 10 years. QC did not live up to the promised hype. It will likely be gone in a few years.
@bradpaul Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment and engagement! What makes you say that the QC won't get updated and wouldn't be around in the foreseeable future? The QC is still receiving updates and Neural DSP have followed through with promises (albeit slower than perhaps what was anticipated)
@MOAB-UT Жыл бұрын
@@bradpaul Slow is an understatement. The simple fact is Fractal is about 10 years ahead in terms of development. It has a desktop editor and world class effects- unlike the QC. So what if it does not have capture. The UI is better on the Neural but that's about it. The PC editor on Fractal is very good. I dunno. I just see them moving on or getting out of the modeling world- just a hunch but I am usually right. You don't hear them talking up a lot of buzz around the QC anymore. Updates come in dribbles. There likely will be a few updates, maybe even an editor for desktop but then I think it will fade away. So I can pay LESS now, for a far superior FM9, or pay MORE and hope Neural fulfills promises, that for years they have not. Remember this thing came out in 2021 and was the most overhyped piece of gear on the planet. Marketed as "The most powerful floor modeler on the planet." It would be perfectly fine for a $500 pedal to add to a board- that's about it...but play whatever you like.

This is all well and good sitting at home, I've tried the QC in rehearsals and live and it doesn't alwasy work out quite so easily as this. A lot of the presets are next to useless in an actual rehearsal or live situation. It's hard to get the levels consistent, the eq settings are often not practical. I feel like I'm missing something, I've hd a QC for 6 months and I'm still to be convinced it's any better than a good set of pedals with a decent amp.
@bradpaul Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting! yeah its definitely something that you do have to work with, but its just like working with an amp too, its just that there is several amps in the quad cortex. I still really like my quad cortex, I still use it more than my amp and pedals, but its definitely a setup to make it work like an amp and pedal setup rather than it being a perfect swap. With work I think it can replace and exceed the simple amp and pedal setup as you can have multiple amp and pedal setups in the box, but yeah it does take some work! What have you played it through? PA? FRFR Speaker? Poweramp and Speaker? I think people have had different results based on the output type!

I've had a QC about 6 months and I'm still fairly ambivalent about it. It's not exactly a plug and go piece of equipment, you really have to tweek it to make it useful. It's hard to set the levels so when you change scene the volume doesn't go way up or down. I used it for a gig the other day and during the sound check I tried the clean sound I had set up and the sound guy said the high frequencies were way too high. You really have to mess about with it, for the money you would expect it to be nicely set up. Most of the factory presets are absolutely useless. They sound terrible amplified.

quick question im a helix floor user and selling my helix to get cortex ,is it really worth to switch over ? i heard some bad reviews about cortex and also they sayin in future they wont update the system , i knoe there is a app you can download patches from other users but is there any chance you can buy patch from other people online like helix ?
@bradpaul Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for your question! So, I haven’t used the helix system so I can’t say whether a switch from the helix to the cortex is worth it. Have you demoed the Quad Cortex to compare yourself? I’d say try it if you can, I certainly did, I went to andertons in the UK to try it in store before I purchased it. As for system upgrades, and as with any piece of technology, it’s hard to say when the equipment will be phased out/replaced and with that comes the stopping of upgrades. NeuralDSP have said a lot about upgrading, improving etc, and some users have said it’s been slower than expected. Some things mentioned that would be available at launch still aren’t available; desktop editor, plug-in capability etc. I’d would suggest looking at the unit as it is today and deciding whether you think it’s good enough to part with your hard earned cash! Yes the Cortex Cloud app! You just download the app on your phone and then start searching! You just click the download button once you find one and then it’ll appear in the download queue on your QC, hit save on the QC and viola, New patch! At the present you cannot buy patches, instead you can download patches for free. That may mean that the people trying to earn money from this product aren’t able too and aren’t producing as many patches for the quad cortex. However, there are fantastic patches on there completely free. I would say that It depends on how you view this but I believe being free means that you do not need to part with more money to get the QC to sound great! Some of the most popular patch creators are: Neural (the company itself), Kiko (guitarist from Megadeth) ToneJunkie, WorshipTutorials, Cory Wong, Rebea, but literally there are thousands of creators on there. You can join in once you have one! With that being said, sometimes that may mean that you download one and it’s not as expected, however it takes literally seconds to download, try, and you can remove it if it’s not up to your standard. You may have lost about 2 minutes time total? Hope that helps! Once again thanks for watching and commenting!

Yes it’s great. Got rid of my Kemper and helix. The feel and sound are great re the quad and the UI is beyond great. I love it and I passed on it 3x. It cost me way more money last yr doing that. I even bought another. I love my amps and pedals but somehow they got the feel down that’s closest to an amp. Simple to set up a preset. You won’t be tweaking for hrs you’ll be playing for hrs. The few bad reviews are from the people that either don’t have it, want the plug ins which the modeler is better than a plug in and they want a pc editor. Don’t need one. The screen is huge. Guess what? The pc editor I saw in utube videos at namm looks like the UI. But they promised it and I believe the Finn’s keep their word. Everytime I had a question they replied asap. I think the plug in whiners want inexpensive plug ins and a computer to sit in front of. Maybe they don’t have the money idk but it’s bs Re any poor reviews. Kemper promised a lot of things that took yrs to show up. They literally said oh you can use a cell now. No you can’t. Only with the least expensive stage. The over 3 grand units need a $100 worth of gear to set that up. No thx. Yes one more thing there are people making money off of selling profiles and they can’t with the quad. Hmm 🤔 free profiles. I use my amp’s return fx into L3 of the quad and plug my guitar into input 1 of the quad. So I’m using a real guitar cabinet. Sounds great. It’s also fun to use not aggravating. Hey! Thanks for watching! I’ve had no latency concerns at all. That’s whether I’m playing live, recording or anything like that. Switching sounds - so people have issues when switching sounds because they switch from one preset to another preset, which does cause a delay. The key here is to create scenes within each preset and then it’s pretty instantaneous (I haven’t measured it with a stopwatch!) but it’s like switching a pedal on or off. So, for switching sounds; use scenes and there will be no delay. if you switch presets; there will be a delay.

Btw, the quad cortex manual says the minimum recommended operating temperature is 32 degrees Fahrenheit, 0 degrees Celsius. Although guys in my band have gone lower than this without a problem. But like you, I tend to default to traditional tube amps at these lower temps.
@bradpaul Жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s what I had read and that’s why I resorted to the “traditional” setup. My main concern was playing in the cold, it working fine, and then me rapidly warming it up by going inside and causing condensation to appear in the unit which would probably destroy it? I’ve had that happen to an old phone up here in Canada and don’t want that to happen to anything else! For those wondering, My QC passed the beer test first gig. a beer came flying up from the crowd hit a monitor and went all over the front of my unit, it carried on like nothing happened! I quickly got rid of the liquid after finishing the song, everything has been fine 👍 Does everyone in your band play through QCs of other types of modellers?
@jaygreer7430 Жыл бұрын
@@bradpaul Our bass player uses his Quad Cortex exclusively. He plays in multiple bands and is performing live all the time. So he wanted a modeler for convenience. He made the switch from amps to modelers about a year ago. I think he tried other brands, but landed on the QC. He liked it the best. Meanwhile, the other guitarist in my band owned an Axe-FX II years ago. He liked messing around with it in his home studio, but I don’t think he gigged with it. For most gigs, like me, he brought traditional amps. Relatively recently he made the switch to the QC, again for convenience. I’ve never been that excited about modelers. In the past, the sound never seemed that good to me, and I would watch the other guitarist try to program his Axe-FX II, which always seemed like a nightmare. But over the last few years it seems like modelers have really improved both in tone and in ease of use. And my band now occasionally books these “fly gigs.” When you fly someplace there’s the hassle of either renting an amp or relying on whatever backline exists at the venue. It just creates some stress and uncertainty. Plus you need to fly with a pedalboard, which isn’t ideal. That’s what’s pushing me to explore the Quad Cortex. I could see myself still bringing a traditional amp to local gigs near my house, but using the QC anytime long distance travel is involved. I’ll see how it goes. My QC literally arrived yesterday, so I’m still getting the hang of it. My youtube searches for QC advice is what led me to your channel. Thanks for sharing your info on it. It’s very helpful!

Nice! Yeah that’s the real difference I’ve noticed over the years, they’ve got better and better! I had a Solid State amp growing up, always wanted the bigger/better “real” amp because of the sound and the “cool” factor 😂 because the amp I had was terrible. So my ears notice the difference! My back certainly notices the difference too! Gone are the days of lugging heads, combos, cabs, pedal boards all up stairs, in and out of vehicles etc. for flying, I’d probably just put the QC in my hand luggage and be good! Have fun playing around with it!

Nice video! I just bought a quad cortex, which is how I found your channel. I saw your most recent outdoor video first. As I mentioned in that comment thread, wool fingerless gloves were key. I bought them weeks before the outdoor gig my band was hired for (Park City Powderfest 2023) to get used to them. At first, I didn’t like the gloves, but after just one rehearsal, I got comfortable with them. For outdoor gigs, I also strongly suggest merino wool. I wore a full base layer of merino wool including socks, bottoms, and a long sleeved top. The audience couldn’t tell. Even a thin layer of merino wool is helpful in fighting off the cold weather. Just my two cents. Anyway, good videos. I’m still learning my quad cortex and definitely checking out your videos. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Haha yes merino wool is a good shout! I wear that when it gets super cold up here. I usually run pretty warm so whilst I was ‘cold’ at this gig, I wasn’t too bad. Fingers were cold at times though! Microphone on the lips was also a cold that you can only experience 😂 Thanks for watching and adding your experience!

Nice! I just played outside at Park City’s Powderfest 2023. It was my band’s first outdoor winter show. (We’re basically a Seattle/NYC indoor, nightclub band.) Thankfully temperatures weren’t too bad - around 28-34 degrees Fahrenheit. I played with fingerless wool gloves, which saved me. It went better than I expected. Without the gloves, I’m pretty sure it would have been a bad experience - both for me and the audience! :)

Sweet! Great idea on the fingerless gloves! They weren’t needed for this gig, but we played a couple of weeks ago in -8° (17f) they would’ve been handy then!

Great video! Just wondering what knob covers are you using for the QC? Thanks!

Thank you! Thanks for watching! They’re called the Mooer Mushroom guitar effect pedal covers. They’re in a pack of 10. I got mine on Amazon, however they should be available in guitar stores and guitar parts stores!
