Thank you for the video. It helped me tremendously tackle my 2007 Passat wagon with 201,000 miles on odometer - and, yes, I ordered the parts from FCP Euro. Also took the advice of preemptively ordering the dip stick tube and breather hose as both were cracked. I definitely recommend removing the cooling fans for more room. It's easy with 1 electrical connector and 4 Torx screws, although the upper screw on the driver (LH) side is partially blocked by coolant hose from radiator. My local stealership quoted $2300 to replace just the oil filter adapter, which would have turned into $2500 with the other two parts. I didn't track my time accurately, but I'd estimate it took me about 8 hours over the course of two days. I replaced approx 3L of coolant.

I hate torque to yield bolts. It is a waste of ressource in the name of "safety". I just torque to initial value and if it calls for 180° I just stop at 90° and never had a problem with it.

I just replaced the pads on my W166 ML350. It was a pretty easy job. I have a couple of comments. The inside caliper bolts are not 15 mm. I had a 17 mm thin wrench. It seemed slightly loose, but I don't have a 16 mm so I can't be sure they aren't 16 mm. Also, as others have pointed out, the piston has to be depressed back into the caliper. I used a ratcheting tool. The piston doesn't have to be rotated. Aside from that, nothing was notable relative to any other time I've changed rear pads.

While working on the water pump side is it possible to accidentally loosen the crank pulley (when locked) and subsequently, timing chain jumping teeth?

Jay, great video. Just curious, since the pressure was relieved in the rail, is there any priming necessary before starting the car? Also, on the greaase, can i used Sil glyde brake grease?

So I have the xc90 2020 t6… I have 50000miles… I asked the dealership that I want them to change my transmission oil but they said that there is no need for it because it’s a sealed box…. What’s your opinion about it? Would you still change it and how it would be changed ? Would I have to order the whole box and replace it? Or how does that work? Do you know anyone in NY area who does that?

My idler pulley disintegrated and the belt shredded in my 08 xc90 on my way home from work the other day. I have not been looking forward to this repair because of how involved it is, but man this video saved me 1000%. And probably at least a couple grand. Its almost back together, and im excited (and nervous) to see if its gonna run ok.. if it does, next weekend i think im gonna go ahead and do my wifes 2013 xc90

Many thanks for Gareth and FCP for these videos. They are becoming more valuable as my wife's original-owner F30 with 75k easy miles continues to fall apart like a Yugo. Replaced a bad coil on cylinder 4 today. Had to source the coil locally for 3x FCP's price to get my wife back on the road, but am ordering the other 3 coils plus spark plugs from FCP for preventive replacement. As others have said, the brace does not need to be removed for coil replacement, but there is a plastic cover next to the left shock tower that needs to be removed. It sems to be missing from the vehicle in the video. Maybe it was added to later models (mine is 12/2014 production date). It's secured by a small torx head screw. I'll be replacing the failed oil filter housing gasket tomorrow with an FCP kit, so another Gareth video to the rescue!

There is a 2004 s60r manual with 178,000 miles on it for $4,300 I am thinking of but wonder if it will need too much work. There is another automatic 2006 s60r with 78,000 miles. I had an Evo X MR for a while and enjoyed it so I could enjoy the automatic, but shifting is always better for me. Any input is greatly appreciated

I have a question concerning my 2017 Volvo XC60. Dealership did the 100,000 maintenance and it came to $7,755.32. The only thing that was not performed was a new thermostat, pump and new coolant. How often does that have to be done? I had the coolant flush 8 months ago.

When repairing/replacing the water pump and thermostat, would you access the auxiliary bracket? I have a 2018 q5 that has a recall for the waterpump, but the dealership is unwilling to repair the waterpump without fixing the auxiliary bracket ($1000). It seems you'd have to access the auxiliary bracket to fix the water pump, but I'm getting double charged? Any advice?
