Sorry but very little experiece with this. The moment you mention the stencil I was lost. What do you mean? To me a stencil is a bought piece with holes, patterns in it, is this what you mean and do you not explain stencil , something I have missed out?? Please help.
@KitBellArtist

Store bought stencils are the most common but a stencil can also be hand made. A mask (which is very similar to a stencil) can also be any material that "masks" the ink on the plate and keeps it off the paper. It could be some leaves, grasses or vines. Check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHS3Y6ZngJqcfck to see some examples.

How do you avoid the tissuepaper wrinkling with the glue?
@KitBellArtist
@KitBellArtist 3 күн бұрын
I put a strip of the matte medium on the panel or canvas, and apply the top edge of the tissue. Then I lift the tissue up from the bottom and put another strip down and continue like that, a couple of inches at a time, to glue the whole thing down. As I go, I also put a layer of the matte medium on the top of the tissue, using a soft brush and gently pushing down the tissue. There will be some small wrinkles but minor and, I feel, part of it's charm.

I love this series, Kit! I’m quite inspired. Here is an idea for making the toilet paper roll and glue easier. Your drawing on paper was perfectly sized to the roll. I wonder if you could put the glue gun design right on that paper which is a flat surface that is easier to work with, and then glue the paper around the roll?

The gel is an extender so although it makes the paint more transparent, it does make more of it ;) I find a primary factor in how many prints I will get is how thickly I put the paint on the plate to start. Lots of paint = lots of prints!! Have fun!

@KitBellArtist

@KitBellArtist
@KitBellArtist 22 күн бұрын
I do love the Golden Opens but if I don't have the colour I want, I use my regular paint and add the Open Gel. If you decide to try it, make sure you get the Open Gel and not the Open Medium. The Gel retains the working characteristics of heavy bodied paint.

What were your colors on this second one? Do you cut your geometric shapes out of heavy cardstock?
@KitBellArtist
@KitBellArtist 29 күн бұрын
The colours on the second roll up are Transparent Red Iron Oxide, Dioxazine Purple and Sap Green. One of my favourite combinations! These geometric shapes are cut out of Dura-lar which is sort of like acetate. It comes in a pad of 25 9x12 sheets and has a matte finish on both sides. Easy to cut and lasts forever! Available at art stores or online. I have used cardstock to cut geometrics and that works well also. Cardstock tends to suck the paint off the plate initially but one it has a good coat of acrylic on it, then it acts more like a mask and protects the paint under it.

I mostly use Spectra Art Tissue for these. It is quite strong but not as strong as Carnival's Wet Strength tissue. I use that when I let the paint dry on the plate and then use another layer of acrylic paint or medium to pull the print. But that is not a technique I use very often. Thank you for watching! I print primarily on Spectra Art Tissue. I do use some smaller pieces of a heavier paper as accents. See Video #8: Adding Paint for examples.
