I love how you've taken inspiration from @yeatesmakes and made such lovely prints to use in your future works. I absolutely love using charcoal and pastels on my gel plate and you've inspired some new ideas. Have you ever tried using pastels directly on the plate? That's fun too. Just know, a bit of baby oil will be necessary to get it off after - pastels really stick. But just a dab will do ya so it's no big deal. Thank you for another wonderful video!

Hi Kit! So happy to find you on here. And thrilled that you found inspiration from Mark Yeates. It is he who inspired me to get my first plate (I now have 3 and there will no doubt be more!) I’m in the uk and not into scrap-booking and journaling . Mark persuaded me that there is a place for a gel plate in fine art applications and my fate was sealed! I love experimenting with my plate and have even sorted a little travel box that goes on holidays with me - my 5x7 as been to France and Turkey so far. I will be taking Karen Stamper’s concertina sketchbook course next month and collage features large in that. Your accent papers video grabbed my attention this afternoon and I’m so pleased I watched it as I may not have found you otherwise. I will be spending the best part of tomorrow in my studio playing with the plates and making some exciting papers! Can’t wait to watch more of your content. Thanks! Catherine

Thank you so much, Catherine! I had used my gel plate on and off over the years but never really found a place for it in my work until 2021. Mark has so many ways of using the gel plate in art - he truly is an inspiration! If you haven't watched it yet, the first video in my Gel Plate and Mixed Media playlist is a presentation that follows my journey over the past few years. I am glad to find someone else who takes their gel plate with them on holidays!! Happy printing - Kit

Thanks Kit 😃 I did watch your intro video, immediately after posting my comment. It’s inspirational! I found Mark in 2021 and that’s when I bought my first plate. I’m working my way towards finding how I want ‘my’ art to look (in my 60’s 😅) and seriously hope to find that gel printing, in some form finds a place. Have you come across ArtWhisperer88 on here? I could watch and listen to him work all day long! And now back to binge watching your content! Thanks again, you too are a pleasure to watch and listen to. So glad I found you.

Thank you so much! I wouldn’t guess that it would work with charcoal and pastels. Interesting, that it doesn’t smudge when you roll the medium over charcoal. Thanks again!

Glad it was helpful! The gel plate seems to grab the dry medium really well but still let go of it onto the paper.

Lovely work. Thanks for another wonderful video. You mentioned Mark Yeates. He's a terrific artist. The correct spelling is: @yeatesmakes

I found that out after I had posted it. Although I can't post a corrected version, I have fixed the mistake in the video description, in a pinned comment and inserted a "card" with a direct link to his channel in the video. Hopefully that will help and direct some viewers to an excellent channel.

What type of tissue paper do you use for this technique? So inspiring! Thank you.
@KitBellArtist2 ай бұрын
I use Spectra Art Tissue. It is much stronger than dollar store tissue and is acid free. The Carnival Wet Strength tissue is also very good.

Thanks for sharing! Why do you add matte gel before transfer?
@KitBellArtist24 күн бұрын
I use the matte medium to pick up the charcoal or pastel from the plate. You could also use acrylic paint. I was printing it onto a background that already had paint on it so I used the matte medium which dries clear and reveals the layers below!

I greatly enjoy your videos and have learnt a lot. Sorry if this is a basic question but how do you deal with different weight papers when collaging? Doesn't it just end up lumpy and uneven? Juno
@KitBellArtist2 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching! I print primarily on Spectra Art Tissue. I do use some smaller pieces of a heavier paper as accents. See Video #8: Adding Paint for examples. I think the key to using multiple types of paper is to consider the paper's weight as part of the design choice as well as it's color and value. I hope that helps!
@MerrylHooper2 ай бұрын
Thank you. I always love the multiple pulls you achieve, particularly the negative ones. I found it difficult to do with cheaper paints so took delivery of some Golden Open yesterday and, lo and behold, it works! Thank you for your videos, please don't stop.

@KitBellArtist2 ай бұрын
@@richardturton8028 are you having trouble with getting it to transfer or trouble cleaning the plate afterwards?
@KitBellArtist2 ай бұрын
Try soap and water. I find that gets most stuff off the gel plate. If that fails, try wipes (the ones with alcohol).

You do a disservice to @yeatesmakes by spelling it incorrectly. There is an ‘e’ in there. Fortunately, it will take you to the correct place if you search by clicking on it in your description.
@SophieKae2 ай бұрын
The fact that Kit even gives credit to another youtuber is laudable. Whether she misspelled his name or not is irrelevant and certainly not a disservice to him.
