Hear ya..but I found simple enough fix..was to just ensure your drain outlet/value is set @ the correct overflow height of your sump..in short-set-3”below water level knowing my 20gal sump will be @ max & risk overflowing onto floor if set below 3”.. basically ended up adjusting & thinking 💭 works fine if u wanna drain it & work on it-lower & be attentive

Very nice! Seems a venturi system is the closest one can get to a "fail-safe" HOB overflow, besides drilling a hole of course! It is very close to fail-safe because it is powered by the same source that would cause the problem (sump return pump). Only issue I think is tubing could become clogged. Otherwise, very few moving parts compared to other HOB overflow "safety measures", and thus reliable!

Salam sejahtera bang...ada tak buat anoxic setup tuk cannister?saya pun tgh buat aquarium plenum based dan 1 flow direction aquarium...sama juga menggunakan zeolite dan vastocean anoxic blocks...saya juga tgh setup anoxic environment menggunakan fluval fx2...saya ubahsuai tray kedua yg merah tu...air hanya boleh lalu kat tepi basket merah tu sebab dah ubah suai untuk minimal oksigen dan water flow kat bahagian tengah basket merah tu...lebih kurang mcm saya telangkupkan microwave tupperware yg saiz lebih kecil dari basket merah dan bahagian bawah bahagian yg ditelangkup tu pun dah seal...flow hanyalah 3mm x 3mm fine mesh kat bahagian kiri tupperware yg ditelangkupkan dan 2mm x2mm fine mesh kat kanan bahagian bawah basket merah yg dah seal tu...rasanya betul tak direction saya ni tuk create anoxic filtration?masih belajar psl anoxic ni...

I like the overflow very much and I would like to recreate it but what is still unclear to me is how to set the water level. How do I have to build the surface overflow if I want the water level 3cm below the glass height? Can you explain that to me?

hello! I have watched so many of your videos and made several of your different PVC overflow setups on my various aquariums. I'm working on this one now and my difficulty is in determining the height of the siphon break pipe. I know you pause the video at 7m28s and show a water line, but the perspective is hard to tell if the bottom of the siphon break pipe should be at the height of the middle of the T, the top or the bottom? I have a prototype that I built last night with the pipe opening roughly at the middle of the T pipe and it seems to stop and start fine, so I was wondering how critical the height is from your experience. thanks for your time! have a great day. It also appears you have a reducer on the siphon break from 25 to 20mm pipe. Is that correct, if so, why? Thanks!

I think a lot of aquarium owners get too strong of a water pump, stressing the fish. What they need are micro pumps, otherwise the fish are always fighting a torrential flood 24 7. Great video.
