I hope reply to this older upload. I received the exact kit ( more inexpensive version ). Unfortunately my power supply came with missing glass tube fuse. Could you check your unit for the specs of the fuse. I would be silly to return the kit to China for the missing 50cent worth glass fuse tube.

If you don't have a torx bit, sometimes a 1.4mm flat head ( actually that might be a 1mm) grips well enough to work, especially as the screws are not particularly tight.

Thanks so much for this video, what can i use in place of a contact cleaner?
@TheStuffMade
@TheStuffMade 15 күн бұрын
Ideally you want to use a contact cleaner as it will both clean and dissolve corrosion, but you can use rubbing alcohol from your local supermarket, like isopropyl or ethanol alcohol, just keep in mind it might not work as well as a real contact cleaner. Cheers, Jake

@@TheStuffMade Thanks so much. I couldn't find a contact cleaner in my local supermarket so I made use of Isopropyl and it did the work. I have not less than 5 "damaged" mouse just sitting around. I was about to purchase a new one before I bumbed on your video. I will likely not be buying a new mouse anytime soon.

Indeed, the way I usually do it is to have a delay table, on PAL it's easy you can use the values 8,8,8,8,8,8,8,1 so you do 8 delays on normal lines and then a single delay on the lines when the VIC chip is making the 6510 CPU sleep while it's accessing the memory. Cheers, Jake

Hey, if I use this device with external DAC/AMP for example Eversolo Z8 SPDIF Input from U7 SPDIF output, would I still be able to use all the VSS (Virtual Surround) options for Headphones? DD and such?

Hi, I have a Sony CDP-S41 which when plugged into mains power will not power up then after about 5min the display comes on and it works. I then replaced all caps inside and its still the same but the sound output is now sounding excellent. Can an IC cause this? thanks.

Hi, It's very hard to say without doing a few measurements. It could be something as simple as a cracked solder joint or a faulty regulator. Best way to start investigating is to monitor all the power supply voltages with a scope during power up. Sorry, can't be of more help. Cheers, Jake

I picked up one of these recently, using it like a guitar pedal as a 2 stage tube booster/overdrive, running the left and right channel in series, any suggestions on how to increase the gain/and or distortion? Lower input voltage as mentioned in comments? (@alabamacajun7791) It has a great overdriven sound as is, just wondering about my options. Im familiar with electronics but fairly new to tubes.

Yeah, I have a few of them, they're nice because they can stand on their own and they have these little knobs to hold round objects. I'm pretty sure I got mine from Aliexpress, try a search for "mini vice suction cup" that should return some results, they're cheap, just around $5 each. Cheers, Jake

My one worked good for a year charging small batteries, model train testing and general light use. Charging a 18650 lithium ion when " BANG " . One of the large capacitors blew its end off. Replaced capacitors but it only reads to 1.5v then falls away. I am purchasing another make of power supply for a replacement.

I bought a brand new one myself (some years back) and it behave the same way from day one but didn't know at the time until it managed to burn 3 of my devices that I was powering (weeks apart from each other) and when I finally realized what was going on instead of fixing it, because I was so angry for the damages that has caused I decided that it's not worth the effort and dismantled it for spare parts (as it was fairly cheap to buy anyways) And by testing the relays I then realized that they were of a questionable quality (and so was everything else on it) and threw them in the bin. So, what I ended up doing was building my own DIY Linear Bench power supply with a couple of LM723C's and some Power pass elements (2 -30V @ 0-3Amps) and re-used the enclosure some buttons and the transformer. After building it, (which didn't take long) it worked first time nicely and still works today ! No regrets here ! But...If I'd known it was of a low quality construction I wouldn't have purchased it in the first place . :))

Hello, can you use this as a headphone amplifier? I currently have hd560s (which by many sound very good with tube amps), a k361 which is rarely being used and an apple dongle, only point in getting this would be trying tubes on the 560s, otherwise might get the 47 classic

20:30, can I please ask why it makes that "uh uh uh" sound? I bought this exact spindle myself and I don't know if it's the spindle or the rest of the cnc mill or the bit... because slowing down the feed doesn't help, the only thing that helps is reducing pass depth, which doesn't make sense to me...
@TheStuffMade
@TheStuffMade Ай бұрын
It's called chatter, it's a common thing on CNC, Milling machines and Lathes. You can sometimes lower it by changing feed speed and rpms or try another bit with more or less flutes. However I think in this case it's mostly because the machine/material isn't stiff enough to prevent the vibrations.

Did you try a Monte carlo simulation with all the tolerances(+- 10 or 20%)? I think in most cases you can neglect the impact from the replacement of C5 and C6. You can finetune R5 and R7 with a Potentiometer, that would make a bigger and more controllable Impact.

I just built up this kit using your upgrades. Works ok, but not much change to the sound of my capacitor coupled amp. Looking forward to trying it with other amps that have direct outputs. Also changed R1 from 2.2 ohms to a 3 watt 3.9 ohm. This lowered to the heater voltage to 12.6 and dropped the resistor temperature from 150f to a more acceptable 115f. Added a 220uF cap to the heater circuit and this lowered the ripple to 1.0vac from 2.25. Thanks for posting your upgrades & measurements, these seem to be the best ones I could find for the 6j1. Update: Increased heater cap to 3300uF. Ripple voltage dropped to .24vac. Also added 470uF caps to R5/9. This lowered the 60cycle hum substantially.

That rise in frequency is part of the charm of this cart. What you gain reducing the hump you lose in something else. It’s a $250 cart. Either get over it or buy something else.

Yes it will limit the noises because of decreasing dv/dt That means the mosfets switch slower(fall time and rise time increased) So the mosfets will be get hot and ...dead

By adding RC snubber and changing the output caps with better (like solid caps) the noises will limit

Thanks for the test data. I have a formal background in engineering, got through all the fundamentals in the tube family in school, but bought the kit to finally have some first hand experience before getting into designing my own from the ground up. *The 2nd transistor in that particular architecture is for voltage regulation BTW.* It's used in solid-state schemes as well. It's collector is tied into the base of TR1 so it shifts it's input base bias current with the constantly changing input signal swing.
