Have any tips for taking a horse out on a solo trail ride away from home? I got my first trailer last week and am ready to hit the road! Just nervous about going out alone since I don’t have any horse friends to ride with. Any advice is appreciated!

@@NattySatyDay horse’s confidence is lower a lot of times when they’re out alone. Give them lots of pats and remember to tell them they’re doing good! Low confidence can sometimes mean more spooky than normal, but that should subside the more you do it.

I watched the IA PBS State Fair Coverage of the Cowgirl Queens and every one of them, for that salute, made much more of a finger guns thing ~ shaking finger guns all over the place. You’d done an open hand salute in your video as an example. What’s goin on here? Finger guns seems ridiculous to me. No offense to the finger guns folks, of course! 🙃

I use a standard snaffle with no nose band, no throat latch and it goes over one ear. She is very responsive and well trained but stopping isn't her favorite. I want to ride her as free as possible and go bitless. She rides great in just a halter as well but do you recommend anything more permanent that I could use that allows her freedom and comfort while still being respectful of my requests such as stopping and standing still?? And safe for trails.

Fascinating information! I didn't know that hackamores came in so many different options and usages. I'm curious to see if my horse could transition to a hackamore, and this helps a lot. A really nice starting point, so thank you!

Not taking Hazel on the group ride does not make you a bad trainer, it would have just been setting her up for failure. It would have been like asking a first grader to do fifth grade math. Based on how many times she has sat back, she clearly needs to learn how to give to halter pressure before you start hard tying her or ponying her.
@MTHorses2 ай бұрын
Whats annoying is the trainer she went to over the winter ponied her all over. Thats just how she is. If she doesn’t do it routinely its like she never learned it😒 but yes, obviously i expected to much of her on this day and will revisit it later.

You're at the point now that I was at a year ago. I had my gelding for 10 years. I had gone to every single clinic with him, shows, training sessions... Nothing worked. We would have great trail rides, then the next he'd blow up as soon as I threw my leg over and would get me off. He wouldn't trailer without a fight, and I just got fed up with it. I started to hate horses and hated riding and it just wasn't fun for me anymore. I ended up selling him and now I ride an old 23 year old perfect trail horse and this past year I've had the most fun I've ever had. I'm on a horse I trust with my life, I'm not scared, no fighting... It's just amazing. There's too many good horses out there to get upset and pissed off at the bad ones. Just my opinion anyway... I wish it hadn't taken me 10 years to learn that lesson, but it worked out in the end.
@jessicagray36482 ай бұрын
LOL you sound like me. Stubborn and won't give up until I win! My gelding was a HUGE ass to load. One day I got so fed up with it, he finally got in after 45 mins and I left him tied in the trailer for the day.
@MTHorses2 ай бұрын
Its a lot of work being this hard headed😂 but no i can’t let her win or she will figure out to do it every time. She is a hard horse. She does the best being worked daily or multiple times a week but thats tough when you have as many as i do. I have considered listing her earlier than i planned, but i haven’t decided yet. If i know someone that could ride the shit out of her and work her everyday I’d sell her now.

Bless you for taking in animals in need... and taking your goats back, haha. I'm interested to see the progress with both mares! Been meaning to ask: would you consider doing a video on beginner trailer driving tips and tricks? I saw your beginner trailering video but am interested in learning to drive a truck and trailer. Curious about real dummy basics like best practices for hitching a trailer, handling curves and speed, braking with a loaded trailer (like gauging braking timing with distance... I don't know how to explain it). Getting used to hauling alone, being at events alone (maybe that could even be another video). I admire you for having your own truck and trailer and just doing all these things independently. I'd like to have all that some day and finally just go to events and clinics I'm interested in but have never had a way to get there.

Aún debes quitarle mucho de talones...por ello cuando observas la muralla, los turcos están más comprimidos al frente que en la zona de talones. Está con tacos altos! Eso lo predispone a laminitis, o sea que se le desgarre la uña

Damn, you need to get that halter off that colt! It's too damn tight! Plus, you should never leave a halter on a horse all the time anyway. They can get hung up on something and break their neck. There should be a law that people have to pass a test about horse care, just like having to pass a test before you can get a driver's license, before they're allowed to own one.

Really fascinating! I had no idea. Do you know if there's any reason why riders are expected to hold the reins with their left hand for this one? Thank you for the info!!

I believe its because your right hand will be against the rail, and so they want to see you saluting with that hand towards the crowd

Thanks so much, this was so interesting 😀 I’m trying to learn everything I can about Western riding & natural horsemanship. We’re buying a bitless bridle for our horse, he rides really well in a rope halter and my friend has an old western saddle in her tack room so we’re hoping that will fit him, so we can try him with that too🤞

You looked great at the show! I hadn't heard of queen's classes before. Is that technically considered a trail pattern class? Or something totally different? I had my first ranch show May 5th and it was sooo much fun. My horse and I didn't place at all; the classes were at least 12+ people and all open divisions, but we got some nice feedback and a compliment from the judge. Looking forward to the next one!

Desensitize to that before hand. Air horns, car horns, instruments if you have any. Prepare him so when you get there they are similar noises to what he has heard before. We try to keep distance from the fire trucks and what not, even with parade horses.
