1. No country for old men. 2. Assassination of Jesse James. 3. Dances with wolves. I love Tarantino, but find Pulp f, or once upon a time much greater than his western movies.

Once Upon A Time in The West is fantastic....not the 2nd best western ever. Not close to it. The Good The Bad and The Ugly and the Dollar trilogy are fantastic for Ennio Morricone's scores. Well shot and influential. But the stories are mostly weak or weird.

Unforgiven is a great number one, but I can't see the total ignorance of Appaloosa. incredible cast, great dialog, humor, satisfying plot. Thanks for the rundown, some of these I'll have to see.

It's at the end ot your honorable mention. My number 1 WWII film is The Big Red One: Reconstruction. The original is 1 1/2 hours long. The Reconstruction was in 2005 or so when they stumbled upon missing footage from Samuel Fuller's epic. Between a commercially needed run time and the 1980's studio censors they edited his film into a pretty good movie, but once this film was reconstructed in his original vision(Samuel Fuller, a WWII veteran who went from the North African Campaign to the liberation of the death camps) it hit a 3 hours 25 minute run-time and was a totally different film, better in every way imaginable.

One movie often overlooked on these lists is The Ballad of Cable Hogue. Sam Peckinpah directs this film about Jason Robards, betrayed and left for dead by his greedy partners, he stumbles upon a waterwell, one that is almost dead center in the longest Wagon Trail between two major cities and nothing but dessert. He goes through the steps of gaining this thought to be worthless land and established a rest stop for those traveling on through. His ex-partners come back through and notice what he had built and it's profitable potential to make them rich and so he has to get rid of them once and for all. It's not in my top 10 but someof these lists go further and it's in the 13 - 20 range probably but seems to get passed over.

The best ww2 movies are the German ones. Period! (I'm not German)
@cipriannemet51917 күн бұрын
In my opinion, the German ww2 movies are the best. Period. :) Hollywood just can not make a single war movie without some pride and glory in it - they still don't get that only money and special effects don´t make the movie, you need substance. They have much less substance. 1. Stalingrad (1993)* 1. Das Boot (1981)* 2. Der Untergang (2004)** 3. Die Brücke (1959) 4. Die Wannseekonferenz (1984) 5. Europa Europa (1990)*** 5. English: It's a pity that you didn't make room for ”Die Wannseekonferenz” (1984, not 2022) in the list. A less known film that gives you chills and the actors act so good you feel it was the actual conference filmed.
