The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is my favorite, and one of my favorite movies. It strikes a surreal balance between realism and lyricism. It feels like an eerie old photograph brought to life. The matter of fact yet poetic narrator makes it feel like real life doesn't have to be overly dramatized, that real life is poetic enough.
