When they're hard like that, pop them in the oven at 350F for a couple hours. Cut in half scoop out seeds, scrape out flesh. Put butter, salt, garlic, and tajin and eat. Its delicious! Also you can use the baked flesh for pie. Native to Mexico. Pest resistant. Grows HUGE as a plant. Its not poisonous at all. Sold at Texas markets. Calabacita or TAH-TOO-MAY.

Tatume. Can be eaten small like zuchini. At the fall let them get large and use like winter squash. Native to Mexico. Puts down roots everywhere it travels. Less vuknerable to vine borers.

Tatume are a native of Mexico. They can be eaten young and small like zuchini, and let them grow large into the fall and winter and they make great pumpkin type winter squashes. Bake the larger ones at 350F for a couple hours, cut open. Clean seeds and eat flesh with butter, pepper and tajin.

Growing these this year for the first time. What threw me was the word "snow". I was expecting a whole flat edible pod. But they are woody and fibrous. So basically they are a shelling pea. I grew another shelling variety next to these to compare, and the Dwarf Snow just isn't all that sweet. I won't be growing them again. I'll process and freeze some of them for later use.

Have you ever had your Paul Robeson Tomato plants (or other variety) suddenly wilt after they seem to be doing well and have produced a bunch of half grown tomatoes? I wanted to try Paul Robeson tomatoes this year since I've heard so much about them. I bought seeds; planted them over the winter and they grew into seedlings and later transplanted them out into different gardens. I planted two in the same raised bed where I have a Cherokee Purple and a Sun Gold growing along with 5 basil plants and a volunteer squash plant. The soil is pretty rich and there is shade cloth over the bed. All the plants started out well and all but the two Paul Robesons which suddenly dried up and wilted are still thriving. I had to take out the Paul Robesons. In another in-ground garden I planted two Paul Robesons and two basil plants and they grew more slowly and then they also dried up and died. So I removed them. There was no yellowing of leaves or spots or any signs anything was wrong except the leaves mostly grew down towards the ground. Can tomato seeds carry diseases that can kill the tomato plant later in life? It seems odd that only this variety- that others including you have had such good success with- can be/act this way. I wonder if bad seeds can cause this kind of thing to happen.

Glad you said not to plant it in the garden. I was planning on doing just that, but its in a pot right now - probably best to contain it. I pinch a leaf sometimes to put it in a cup of tea for liver, parasites, etc. Less is more when it comes to this plant.

I've been wondering what they taste like. We have them grow in our garden but my daughter rips them out and dumps them in the compost before I get a chance to taste them. She assured me they're useless but I just wanted to know. We also have real strawberries and they're pretty good but not nearly enough of them.

Very informative video teaching us beginners that even expert gardeners can occasionally misdiagnose plant issues and that finding the right balance of nutrients is so important. This presentation was so good I subscribed immediately, thank you so much--well done sir!

If world hunger was something the powers that be wanted to solve, this info would be public. I cant even find the name of the allelochemical in strawberry roots- thats been studied, but not for us to know. So wrong!

There is probably far more data on allelopathy than is shared with the public. It's really annoying to see them gate-keeping info that would help us grow gardens.

QUESTION: Thank you for this video! I had my Roma toms die on me today about bought a fairly mature totem tom plant. I have 30 litre pots. Would it be a bit mistake to transplant this gorgeous little plant into the much bigger pot? I don't want it putting all it's energy into creating roots. Many thanks!

I grow the Trinidad Scorpions for 8+ years now. They can sometimes be an unstable hybrid, or maybe they got cross pollinated, or maybe someone got a seed mixed up on you. My plants are sometimes golden or mustard colored and not so hot. The ones with the wrinkles and bumps and thorns, spikes, and horns are the hot ones. Sometimes liquid drips out when you cut them. I got a bunch of hot chocolates this year. (2024)

I love Fresno peppers, they are hard to find in my area. I've been told that the spice increases significantly as they ripen. I did not plant any Fresnos this year, but I have a plant that looks just like a Fresno from seeds that were labeled as something else. I'm ok with it, it's a happy accident.
