@spidermaf4 күн бұрын
Yeah. When I saw that slot...doh... no the wow stick is single torque as far as I know. But I did throw away the huge instruction book. It's a screwdriver! How much explaining does it need I thought...

I would use one of these but would take the power ratings with a pinch of salt and be wary of overloading it! Anything I was likely to leave on overnight, to charge my devices, I would buy from a more ‘reputable’ source! To a certain extent you only get what you pay for!
@spidermaf11 күн бұрын
I get you about more reliable sources, but so much is manufactured in CN anyway. It's not always junk. It's something I wouldn't leave on 24/7 though. Most things in the cave get disabled when I walk out of it :) thanks for your comment as always
@gartmorn11 күн бұрын
I just like to err on the side of safety as I know the standards of different products can be so variable! I buy a lot of my stuff from China and agree most isn’t junk but just advise caution!

Inductive charging is so inefficient and was proved so years ago. Even today the efficiency is still only 13% meaning that 73 cents out of every dollar is thrown away! (73 pence out of every £1 in the UK)
@spidermaf11 күн бұрын
I hadn't realised about the inductive charger part of this until I saw the symbol. I've never used them (other than for wireless LEDs) as they never normally work through my phones case. Maybe we need an infinate power source so that the inefficiency isn't an issue.. Just like testlas wireless power transmitters that he posited:) thanks for your message

Inductive charging for phones using a quality Qi charger is 70 to 90% efficient,

Thanks for showing the case redesign part too. I repurposed a laptop screen a few years back but the setup was quite crude because I didn't really have proper tools to make a casing. I only just found out that iPad screens can be repurposed too so I can re-use my iPad gen 2 screen - but this time I have some idea how to make the setup sturdy, while looking cool at the same time. Saving this in my 'resources for projects 'playlist.
@TerrainbyAaron18 күн бұрын
Fingers crossed with the sponsorship. You'll get it. And can I ask a silly question since I've started using lights on my builds. What's the flux for? Was this ever a type of grease ? As I remember my dad putting grease on circuit boards on the old arcade games he used to fix. Happy new year
@spidermaf18 күн бұрын
The flux i use is a cross between greasy and sticky. It works with the solder and makes the solder flow and stick more easily. I think it prevents the metal oxidising on the surface when it's melted. Physically, it's as if it gives the moulten solder better surface tension. Stops it sticking to the soldering iron as you move it away and makes all the joins nice and shiny. The grease your dad used may have been for a waterproofing bit could have been flux, too.

I take it you were using a powered hub originally?
@spidermaf19 күн бұрын
@gartmorn I was using a small adaptor that had several usb ports on it. I noticed on the video when I watched it through that the mouse worked to begin with when i plugged it into the hub, and also there is a usb c socket on the side of the hub, so it might just need a wee drop of power to work.

would you say it's printable in resin?

It would probably print but I doubt it would snap together in resin. Maybe an abs like resin might have a bit of give in it that would possibly work. Best to try just a couple of joints first to test.
