This series is still GOAT trombone choir recordings I've ever heard. One person, multi-person, live, recorded, or otherwise.

I would like to pose a question to the group. On the David Concertino first note, I have always cut the Eb off on 3 to facilitate the Bb 16th into the triplet. For me it makes that so much cleaner. What do you think about that? Thanks for posting, great video

This is the perfect example of “golden tone” of trombone, I’ll now on send people this as The paradigm of that.

Crazy, I have been practicing my high register (for my standards, let's say f# to Bb) recently and noticed already how my tone quality in the low octave suffered. This is soo impressive!

What recording gear do you use? I love your arrangements and your playing is GOD like, but your choice of EQ has always sounded a bit off for me, almost like I'm hearing it from a gramophone or through a tube

Not sure what to say to this. While I appreciate your comments on my playing, I use a pretty simple but solid audio setup and EQ: MacBook Pro Laptop Computer Logic Pro Nimbus Exponential Audio Reverb software plug in Neumann TLM 193 Large diaphragm Condenser Microphone Mogami Gold Stage Microphone Cable - 50' XLR-XLR Universal Audio Apollo Twin MKII SOLO 2x6 Thunderbolt Audio Interface I’m very happy with the results.

Jim, I know this is nearly a year after the fact now, but I think I told you that I had multiple bilateral hernia surgery right before the pandemic hit. It took me six weeks to play a note again and another year after that to feel like myself again. Hernia also runs in my family--my maternal grandfather had multiple surgeries back before laparoscopy and effective mitigation was a thing. Now, though, I feel stronger on the horn than I ever did before, and I wonder how much my janky abdomen was actually holding me back when I was younger. I guess I'll never know the answer to that. But if I can do it, then I know damn well you can.

0:51 I was wondering what this arrangement would do with all the string and wind parts, especially the B section of this ABA march. Really cool and unexpected harmonies and counterpoint (if that’s what it was). It almost felt like it could have been improvised.

Hi Jim. Fellow yinzer here. Grew up near Pittsburgh, went to Carnegie Mellon, didn't go dahntahn all that much. I started getting interested in multitracking about 25 yrs ago but I was so slow getting to it, your colleague Neal B beat me to it! Darn it! (Being principal trpt and having 2 little kids made it difficult....) I've been arranging trpt ensemble stuff since I retired from the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. I first started on Cool Edit Pro, now I use ProTools. One example (for 13 trumpets) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZilnKmdlN1rm80 Anyway, I learned a lot from overdubbing (playing in tune especially). Good for you and your students. Audacity is good and free. Keep up the good work! Take care.

Man, what a powerful bone you are! I've played many parts in the community and college bands I've been in, and I've always enjoyed 2nd for it gives me the chance to be sure that the trombone section sounds like a choir.
