How about the sameness of wanting ,viscerally, to go back the same way/path that I came, all the time, hour after hour, minute after minute, day after day, year after year, decade after decade since I was about 2 or 3 years old, And walking backwards as part of the reversing/undoing, and for separation and boundaries? There actually is a way to win Bop It. If you get 100 points, it will say "Wow, you beat Bop It, high score 100." Then it will play a celebration sound.

The 4 functions of behavior do not always apply to more nuanced, complicated reasons that kids or individuals produce maladaptive behaviors. Sometimes it is a type of pain management.

I was so scared to put my 4 yr old son into ABA therapy, but likely I found out that his older sister's best friend's mom is a BCBA and she coached me into getting my son into a great ABA clinic! We have seen such progression since he started from day 1! He's actually been in 2 different clinics. We thought we loved the 1st one until we got him into one closer to home and have been loving this one even more! Anyone considering ABA or may be scared about it, I highly recommend checking out multiple facilities! They are NOT all the same! Sometimes, it even comes down to who their BCBA is through a clinic because another BCBA within the same clinic could design their program differently. Old school ABA was harsh! Newer ones are play based and one thing I love about the one we are at now is that they only address things you want addressed! They are all about letting the child be their authentic self! We just wanted to help our son process things and prepare him for school and life skills. His stimming, quirks, etc. don't bother us!

I love my kids. Would never do this. But society or whoever really needs to offer more support for people in this situation. I hate how little support there is and how much judgment there is. It feels like a no win situation for anyone. My friend is autistic her mom is in her 70’s I can feel she is very overwhelmed. It just seems like there should be a better solution. Please don’t do anything terrible to your kids. I just wish there was better help for you.

Thank you for this information. My son, now 37, slipped through with no one noticing that he has autism even though I noticed "something", but didn't know what until I read about you. He is very smart, has a PhD, but a career in academia is too stressful for him because every day he has anxiety. I am now helping him to find a low dose anti-anxiety medication.

Awful what happened to Alex. If Dorothy and Agatha are guilty they deserve prison. If they are not guilty I don't want them punished. May have a song about this. I am autistic, musician/singer/songwriter. Wrote few on the autism awareness.

I understand this is a hard topic for some. But I would encourage you to have a conversation with the individuals themselves and get their opinion. Teaching someone a skill gives them a choice to use it or not. If I learn to speak Chinese I am not forced to use it, but it means I can choose to use it if I want to communicate with a person who only speaks Chinese. Is it your position that we should not teach people skills and give them the opportunity to use those skills, if they choose to? That seems discriminatory to me.

As an autistic person, late “diagnosed”, I’ve no desire to “recover”. I watch you neurotypicals wittering on, being herd animals and uncritically following the crowd, and seriously wonder why you think it’s normal. It’s weird. Just because you are the majority doesn’t make it any less problematic
