I always fid it hilarious that people who don't live by salt water think that if there is a shark in the water, they can't swim there. Like....there are ALWAYS sharks a few feet away from swimmers, everywhere, always. They almost never bite you. And since Bull Sharks will swim all the way to Wisconsin from the Gulf, and Bulls are the dangerous ones, they're probably in more danger from a shark bite in Ohio than Boca. 😆

Great job baiting & fighting that hog! I hope chef got lucky with the 'cuda. From late fall to early spring, up to 70% of them can have ciguatera poisoning. It's rarely fatal, but the more you eat, the bigger chance of death.

I caught a 34" bonnet head last week on a Saturday morning, put it in my ice chest, covered it with ice and brought it home. Filleted it Sunday afternoon. Before cleaning, I read all this same stuff on line about bleeding it, cleaning it immediately, and a bad smell from urine in the skin. The same things I'm reading here. I experienced little to none of that. I did not bleed it, there was little oder, not anything more than any other fish. It filleted easily. No bones, just a backbone. Nice white flesh. I soaked it in milk, coated it with cajun frying seasoning, fried it and it came out perfectly light, flaky, white fish-like texture. Ate it with some bread, cocktail sauce and fries. It was great! I caught it wading 100' out in the surf at fish pass jetty by Mustang Island State Park. Walked it into the beach before I landed it. Didn't know what I had, and was glad I did. So that's my experience, not what I read or heard someone else say they heard.

I caught two a 16incher and a 19incher on live prawn the other day. They are way more of a fight than i was expecting for the size I brought up.😂 can't wait to taste them. They apparently love structures near the bank line because we pulled three and one jumped out of the boat. They all were caught from a concrete structure up against a wall like that about 16-25ft deep. Curious as to how big they get. We got an octopus in a can that wouldnt drop the prawn too.

Nice Mutton!! If it helps you remember, hogfish opens same day as grouper and closes on Halloween Day. May 1st- October 31st. They currently have to be 16" to the fork. Monroe County has Atlantic regulations for hogfish and grouper no matter which side of the bridge you're on. Be safe and tight lines!!
