No. It's not a crochet needle, just a large blunt embroidery needle. I supposed you could certainly use a crochet needle or hook to achieve the same thing-provided it doesn't get stuck and damage the hair when pulling the needle through the topknot, but I did not use one in the video.

Great presentation on the clones! Very interesting and fun to watch! I always remember the clones at the time @ 1960-70's being light and hollow to the touch, i.e. cheap. Thanks again!😉

What is the standhole?

Smart Dolls have a port in the small of their back where you insert their stand. It effectively allows you to hid the stand in photographs.

Sorry but Maxie is not a clone doll.
@AllMyPlasticChildren10 ай бұрын
Technically neither are the Uneeda Suzette, Ideal Mitzi, Takara Jenny, Ideal Misty or the Ideal Mera Superqueen if you're keeping track :-p, but if we really want to be picky - any 11 1/2 inch fashion doll that isn't Bild Lilli could be considered a Barbie clone. I am using the term "clone" in the context of being produced as a competitor to Barbie, even if it is a stand-alone line.

do you know how to reset the eyes?
@AllMyPlasticChildren Жыл бұрын
You have to heat the head up then pop out the eyes - we've used a wooden spoon, and it takes a lot of force.

This is a very interesting and informative video. I always passed up on the clones, but I’ll definitely keep an open mind now. I especially like the early Barbie clones. And you did a good job coloring the one doll’s hair. Thanks for sharing! Always enjoy learning something new! 👗👖👚

I have one of these dolls. I got her for Christmas when I was 8 years old in 1961. My grandkids make me put her in the closet when they come over because they don't like her watching them all the time. I love that doll as much now as when I got her!

There are a number of comments asking about cord length - we don't measure, we simply cut it when it has enough tension.

I find the clone or "aftermaket" knock off Fashion Dolls just as much as Barbie. I have owned and still own a few of these. This was a fun and educational video. Thank you for making it! :)

May I know what's your tension settting? Thank you.
@AllMyPlasticChildren2 жыл бұрын
I use a 3-thread configuration and what I've found works really well (for my machine) is right needle tension ~1.3, upper looper ~3.2 and Lower Looper tension ~ 2.7. However, my machine is 30+ years old and only has a rough estimate of the value on the knobs so I would expect it will vary considerably machine to machine.

@@AllMyPlasticChildren hey :) do you use 1 or 2 needles serger?
@AllMyPlasticChildren Жыл бұрын
@@sayomidolls4135 Hi! Mine is a 4 thread, but I only have it set up for to use one needle - I find that works best for the scale :)

@@AllMyPlasticChildren yes ! I think that using 1 needle is much more better to get narrow stich. I need to check this with my Brother serger :D

Nice collection, thank you for doing this! So great to hear someone knowledgeable about the true VINTAGE dolls, i.e., Barbie family of the 1960s. I can't stand it when I hear people who call 1990s Barbies "vintage" because to me, they are not. They are modern. Just because something is more than ten years old doesn't qualify it to be called "vintage". That term, at least in the Barbie world, only should be used for the 1960s dolls.
