Bring on the Clones!

Vintage Barbie clone (11 1/2 inch fashion dolls) collection show and tell. Dolls featured span the 1960s to the early 1990s and include Hasbro Maxie, Betty Teen, Takara Jenny, Charly, Polly PlayposeEegee's Babette, Ideal Misty, Mera Superqueen, Mitzi and Uneeda Suzette as well as several identified clone dolls. The video is targeted towards adult collectors of vintage fashion dolls and all the dolls shown are part of our personal collection.

I remember wanting a Barbie like my older sisters and neighbor girls, and my mother attempting to fob me off with a clone doll from the grocery store. I was not amused. That would have been about 1962.

Haha! That’s how I felt when I wanted the huge superstar travel trailer for Christmas, but ended up receiving the much less expensive red and white VW van from the Sears Wish book! I was pissed! But I tried not to let it show. I did get the Superstar Barbie, plus the Ballerina Barbie. Before I went in to open my gifts, my Mom pulled me aside and told me Santa wasn’t going to be coming anymore and basically that he didn’t exist. ( I had my suspicions.) My Mom did reassure me that even though Santa wasn’t going to be coming anymore, I was still going to get presents. I still got tears. No more Santa. The cheaper doll camper. I knew that it was going to be all downhill after that! 😢

Great presentation on the clones! Very interesting and fun to watch! I always remember the clones at the time @ 1960-70's being light and hollow to the touch, i.e. cheap. Thanks again!😉

This is a very interesting and informative video. I always passed up on the clones, but I’ll definitely keep an open mind now. I especially like the early Barbie clones. And you did a good job coloring the one doll’s hair. Thanks for sharing! Always enjoy learning something new! 👗👖👚

I find the clone or "aftermaket" knock off Fashion Dolls just as much as Barbie. I have owned and still own a few of these. This was a fun and educational video. Thank you for making it! :)

I really liked this video. You have a very calm and pleasant way of presenting your dolls and your house looks lovely behind you. I collect clones also. The clone dolls are so much fun, some look really beautiful and some look so odd they're a good for a laugh. I think they're great to have along with your Barbies for some variety, and because they're vintage now too right along with Barbie. So they're a little bit of history. The clones that come out in the Dollar type stores now are sometimes quite good looking and well dressed. And other times, frightful and you just wonder what were they thinking? LOL😊

That was a very nice presentation of your clone doll collection. I have only recently got back into my childhood love of fashion dolls.I had a Pepper, a Dodi, and a Tressy. My mom made a bunch of the clothes, and I never realized that I had clones or knock offs, and not real Barbies.I have collected a mod era Barbie, 3 Tressy’s, a skipper, several barbies from all different years. I live in the middle of no where, and can’t wait to retire so I can move into a small town so I can hit the thrift stores and estate sales. eBay is a bit expensive for my budget, but I have found a few dolls to get me started. I also like to look for dollies that need rescuing, as I love to sew and make them their clothes. I like the Misty and Mitzi dolls the best out of your collection.

HI! i think the clone dolls whether Barbie clones, Playpal clones or toddler or baby doll clones are all interesting! I had some as a child too (born in 1963)…. Some are prettier than who they are suppose to imitate. My favorite thing of all is you CUTE drawn face on your video of CHUCKLES!!!!! LOVE her and all of my Chuckles- all twelve of them !!!!! I had a Maxi doll. They had flat feet so you couldn't use the Barbie shoes but I think I remember they had sneakers.

You should really try out the Barbie or Doll subreddit in order to indentify the dolls that you want. They're really kind and helpful people and they're usually spot on with their guessing. Hope you join, I'd love to see what people have to say!

Technically neither are the Uneeda Suzette, Ideal Mitzi, Takara Jenny, Ideal Misty or the Ideal Mera Superqueen if you're keeping track :-p, but if we really want to be picky - any 11 1/2 inch fashion doll that isn't Bild Lilli could be considered a Barbie clone. I am using the term "clone" in the context of being produced as a competitor to Barbie, even if it is a stand-alone line.
