Your video is informative, but switching off the backlight from the beginning and experimenting with other RIM light options, including front or overhead lights with a grid, could have been interesting. Your video was marred by the backlight. It didn't add any value other than distraction.

ehm, soft shadows depending on the size of the light source. The size is always relative. The size is always the size of the last diffusion relative to the space. The sun is "big" but without clouds it is a hard light, with clouds, the clouds are more or less the light source and closer and bigger and so softer ... .

@@motionbymike I was just watching your December video going over your studio/office lighting. I recognize a ton of the same overthinking I struggle with. I'm ordering a small pile of lights and cameras now. I really like how you set up the 3 cameras for your podcast, too. It's really a little surreal how much work we can put into things, recognize each and every flaw and every opportunity for improvement and someone will come along and say "great video, man!" It's also funny how many tutorials are out there featuring finished studios I wouldn't want anything to do with. Anyway, good luck. Thanks for posting. Keep it up.

Diffusion really makes a difference by making a light source larger in relation to the subject, allowing it to wrap around the subject I use a similar sheet but I clip it up in a more landscape orientation to maximize on it's ability to wrap around my subject, then place the light at an optimal position to fill out the sheet of diffusion for an even spread of light All in all you lose a lot of potential light output but you trade it off for a larger/softer light source

Thanks for doing the side-by-side comparison. It really helps to pinpoint where the differences are in techniques. It did seem that there was a lot of bleed into the background with the book light setup that made it a little less dramatic overall IMO, but I suppose that could be blocked with a negative panel if it wasn't desired.
@motionbymike Жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely, it’s definitely not for every scenario. I was more so looking at the effects it had on the skin and face rather than the spill. In a real works scenario I would have flagged a lot
