Thank you so much for the inspiration. I put a little coconut shell flower button at the joining ends. It's pretty and somewhere to finish the ends under. ❤

First off, I love your hat! I watched this as I wanted to make one for a friends 60th birthday. I would have preferred you explained each step of what you where doing in the video instead of just talking about your opinions and views of everything. You might want to watch your video back and listened to how many times you use the words I and me......just saying your video might get more views and likes if you change that. Cheers

I have at least 10 full tutorials on my channel. This was just a quick crochet to watch while I talk about “Why I Love Beer Can Hats” as the title says. You might be less disappointed if you read titles before watching ME and MY videos, which I make about whateverthehell I like. Carry on. 😎🙄🫶🏼🖕🏼

Gorgeous!! I wish all of your jewelry was in it's own playlist!! But I'll sort through to find them. 😅 Thx for being vulnerable and sharing your art with us!! I have several disabilities but my Dercums Disease has been rough this past year. I've had 3 surgeries in my right leg in the past 14 months. I woke up in horrible pain on Christmas morning and my leg was completely but painfully numb and I couldn't feel temp, touch, nothing. I had 3 lipomas removed from my buttock because they were compressing my sciatic nerve. Then, when I was still having the numbness from the knee down, we found a 5x9x3cm lipoma from my calf 3 weeks ago. I'm healing and making jewelry, macramé and crocheting...keep my mind focused on anything other than the pain I have. I like to say that I turn pain into beauty. Anyways, if it wasn't for creators like you, I would feel very, VERY alone. So thank you very much! 😁📿🫶🏻 ~ Heather Aston (aka Mama🐻 Aston)

Never paid much attention to beer-can hats, but a friend of mine's been getting requests and wanted to know how to deal with the can edges. So I looked around and found this. I started linking the cans together, and at five cans, didn't think the crown was big enough, so I ran an extra row around the last can (fortunately, that was the "front and center" one) for a bit more circumference. That should have added 3-4 stitches to the top, but I ended up a whole can short when I tried to join the top, so I had to add another round to the top to get the stitches to match (so I lost my "crease"). then I wanted a bit more of a brim, so I added two rounds. Take two, I'm probably going to use a smaller hook for a stiffer brim and see if I can eke out a little more height out of the side cans (and maybe stagger the "shorts") to get a more natural crease on top. (and for some bizarre reason, my comment got added to a bunch of commments for a different video, even though this one was on top.)

Yeah it is actually 6 labels as I say/show in the video.
@wendygoerl9162
@wendygoerl9162 Ай бұрын
@@bohemianmermaid I'm saying the top, made as described, only had enough stitches to match up with five labels' worth of the crown. I wore it to my painting group to show it to the crocheter that's been getting requests from family to do beer-can buckets (she wondered how to deal with the edges of the cans), then I went to the library where I got an unsolicited comment about it. (At the time I made it, the only cans in the recycling bag were Seattle Cider Company "Dry" cans, which I find amusing, since the stitching covers the "hard cider", so people could easily get the wrong meaning)

@@wendygoerl9162 lol. I still must disagree, it all fits if you follow the part about decreasing the top edge of the crown. The pattern is also available in my shop. Zero issues in 2 years. But great job making it work!

Love the hats. I found your channel after I purchased a beer can hat pattern from Etsy. This pattern turned out to be a photo copy of a pattern from a book from the 70’s so it’s really hard to read. Also, it suggests that you line the beer cans with some sort of plastic. It suggested a used bleach container. I assume this is because the cans could get hot in the sun. Have you found this to be a problem? I’m making the hat for my son to wear to a summer party up in Northern California (Chico State) it tends to get hot AF there. It will be his 21st birthday so I want to make sure he doesn’t burn the crap out of his head if he gets too drunk to take it off 😂🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🍻🍺

Ugh I have seen that pattern, I need to list my patterns there. Honestly I wouldn’t line them, they’re fine. The hot part is the yarn. One alternative is to use that plastic raffia, a little funkier but waterproof and stiffer. A customer showed me that with my cowboy hat pattern. Fun!! 🧜🏼‍♀️💜

I believe for the price, the only yarn to make most anything outside of a blanket is Hobby Lobby's, I Love This Yarn. The softness is perfect. I've found you can crochet with it without it splitting. I enjoy quickly crocheting through my projects. But the big reason I grab this yarn is their sale fits my pockets. I love that for under four dollars you get 7 ozs. I realized that's a deal you don't see often. The colors are nice as well. I'm 74, so I have it shipped to my home, but the stores have it for the same price. I enjoy creating everything out of this yarn, which is my passion. Thanks for the video. I remember that 1970's crochet book. 😉
