Can't believe this was three years ago. Just seeing it now. Phenomenal lesson. Just looked at his website and it's great to see that he's made the expansion he was talking about. The website kicks ass too. Thank you for this amazing interview - really helpful for me as a landscape gardener too.

Such a good episode! Love the trajectory of their business and then how they dealt with things. One thing that drives some of us out there to look at starting a tree service, from another adjacent trade - like gardening and landscaping - is that we can't get an arborist to come out! They're all so dang busy!

good point, you can literally start off 1,000 different ways. Some start as landscapers, stump grinders, or something entirely different but just love trees. Thanks for the comment and listening!

Hi Wes, thanks so much for providing such outstanding advice and marketing strategies for tree business owners like myself trying to grow their company. If ever you start offering your services in Australia, I'd be interested to explore what you can provide us especially in terms of cohesive google SEO and google / facebook ad optimisation. I've followed your suggestions for months and am stoked to be seeing solid success across all areas of my business so really appreciate your work.

What number shows up on the caller ID? Can you tell its a number coming from the google ad?
@TreeServiceDigital
@TreeServiceDigital Ай бұрын
The caller's number shows on the caller ID, so you will see the number they are calling from. You will hear "new call from Google Ads" on a whisper message before the call connects to you when you answer. This is how Google does this, and they rotate local tracking numbers on your ads where they record the calls.

NUMBER ONE - get a generative AI chatbot that can handle all your inquiries, texta phone calls etc. hook it to a qr code and a custom link. Put that on everything including your business cards and signage etc Offer a free incentive for people to give you their email address. Market to them in emails sms and fb messenger

Right now we're basically booked until Christmas vacation. We work all winter long (other than a couple weeks off around Christmas). What's the best way to incentivize people to wait until January to get their work done? What's the smallest discount you've seen to be effective for that?
@TreeServiceDigital
@TreeServiceDigital 21 күн бұрын
If you are booked out during the late summer/fall, you could incentivize your customers to wait until Jan/Feb to get the work completed and give them 10% to 15% discount if they are open to waiting. You could explain also that the benifits of pruning/trimming during the winter months are easier with access, etc.

I’m in week four of running local service ads. In that time I’ve had nine calls. Two of them were Robo calls six of them were people shopping for prices. Only one call out of the nine booked an appointment. I am now over $500 in the red And really wondering if this is even worth it. Yesterday alone I paid $160 for two people to call and ask about prices I’m starting to dread the caller ID coming up and saying it’s Google. How do you solve? The problem of paying for calls from people were only looking to get a price ?
@TreeServiceDigital
@TreeServiceDigital 2 ай бұрын
1) Restrict the categories of services 2) Hang up the phone quickly in under 30 seconds if it is spam or doesnt sound like a viable lead. These are the 2 things you can do, you aren't charged for any call under 30 seconds, and if you keep getting calls about stump grinding, or smaller tree services, just uncheck some of the categories that make sense. Hope that helps!

do you have a number I can call to ask questions? I have some problems with my LSA account. My competitors are seemingly out ranking me, without having more of anything than me. I answer every call, I have 100+ pictures on there. I have 1400+ reviews, 99% of them are 5 star. I have a 4.8 right now. I have competitors with 5 reviews and a 5.0 and 4 pictures out ranking me. I have competitors with 10 pictures and a 4.6 out ranking me. I'm not sure what is going on here. I could use some guidance.

There must be something off in your settings Josh. Maybe try and tweak your budget and local service areas, and maybe it will spark it to show more. Sometimes when there are 20-40 tree companies verified in the Local Service Ads, it can be hard to break through. Sounds like you have a ton of 5 star reviews though at 1400, that is fantastic!

How is the tree industry doing overall for your clients? Have contractors had to drop prices on work to stay busy? In my area, it seems a lot of my competitors are bidding way too low. About 40% of my competitors don't have worker's comp. Trouble is those companies are usually much cheaper, and if the prospect gets 3 quotes, they're likely to get at least one of those companies that aren't fully insured to submit a quote. Many of those companies just say they're "insured", which is misleading, as it's illegal to not have worker's comp if you have employees, or even "fully insured", which is definitely untrue, and many times the customer doesn't actually verify they have worker's comp insurance or even general liability insurance. On a $3,000 job, a company that can submit a quote for $2,500 will most likely get it, even if the only reason their costs are lower is due to them paying their employees cash under the table with no worker's comp. Other than marketing to affluent towns, which I've experimented with and the jury is still out on that, what do you recommend?
@TreeServiceDigital
@TreeServiceDigital 4 ай бұрын
It depends on the tree company and their area mainly. The more poplation in the service areas, the better for lead flow for sure. We have some clients still doing very well, lead flow can be down for some areas, especially during an election year and everyone is fixated on that. Overall as long as you have a multi channel marketing approach, you will do better than just relying on one source of leads. Keep charging forward, and growing your business! People that pull back on marketing, leave the door open to those that are aggressive during slower times, and they end up picking up more market share.

Could be a lot of things that caused that. I am not sure that the change in where you manage the profile was the culprit, but perhaps it could have been. Focus on getting more 5 star reviews, uploading tons of photos, and that will help give it a push!

Not just land scapers but construction workers also so where I am at in Michigan I grab a stack of business cards and go to the lawn dudes the landscapers and contractors even a lot of the local businesses I had them a stack and every job they get me I throw them 100$ or 50$ whatever a little incentive. Don’t dress like a bum either,34.99$ on amazing button down short sleeve shirts with custom stitching their cheap and look great and they breathe well when your climbing, we get comments all the time about how good we look 😉I promise that it does make a difference.

Great share, and yes the more folks you speak with and leave business cards with, the better the referrals will get and more consistent! Dressing more professional is HUGE as well, potential customers and referral partners want to know that who they hire or refer, are clean looking and professional. This is also a form of marketing, just wearing company shirts and polos to look consistent, great for branding!

One-handing a saw is what the best pros do when necessary. The only people that generally say you need two hands on a tophandle saws are professional trainers that don't actively work production in the field. Two hands on the saw is generally better, but one-handling is fairly safe if you watch out for your other hand and watch out for kickback.
