Great video covering the primary concerns any of us have buying a new lens, Too much contrast in the lens can affect the highlight rolloff, It's like Nikons old 17-35 f2/8 The lens was sharp but lacked contrast But yet the lens could create some beautiful images and as far as your 'White pigeon' goes you'll give that great egret Identity issues, ha ha ha, But anyway thanks for the video

I think for the most part the analysis is spot on. I own the 24-120 f4 and the 40mm f2 that are labelled as "shut up and buy it" and I really use both of them a lot. I also got the 85mm f1.8 that I don't really know what to do with it... Sure it is sharp and bright, but. Maybe night actions shots?
@ZWadePhoto
@ZWadePhoto Күн бұрын
@@eliaskonstas5250 I doubt the 85 1.8 is fast enough focusing for night time action. 85s are always slower because they don’t really need to be super fast. The only known exception is the 1.2. For whatever reason Nikon made it fast haha

Had the 70-200 and have to agree. It has all the technical qualities you would expect from a lens of that caliber and price but the resulting images have all the charisma of a brown cow. It's just a really boring image. Subjects don't really pop off the background, the bokeh is good but nothing special, it's just....a bit boring. And on the other side I also owned the 70-180 and was so impressed with it; it has really nice bokeh, is very, very sharp and contrasty and t.b.h. I still am in awe of what you get for the price!

For me the best one is 24mm 1.7,small, light, close focus, good sunstar. Also I rly like the 16-50 a bought it for penny as back up if I need something wider than 24mm. And man that lens deliver. I did comparison test with 16-80 2.8-4.0, which was the sharpest dx zoom lens in dslr times. 16-50 is sharper on sunny days with no aberration. 16-80 has softer edges but better contrast.

If think if everyone would just stop comparing cameras and ACTUALLY focus on taking pictures, we'd all be better off. We're literally stressed out as photographers and in constant anxiety over what to buy and soon you buy it, you want to buy the next one. Before 2007, we never did this. Unless your client spec sheet specifies that you must shoot with a specific camera, seriously just buy what you can afford focus on TAKING PICTURES.

I believe the contrast of the 70-200 when you do the micro contrast part of the test needs to be stopped down the same as the 85 from max open aperture. I believe the image of a lens perform better that way. But I still think the 85 will be better because it's a great prime lens.

I am considering this camera, but I am concerned about the quality of the viewfinder when shooting in incandescent light. You can read online complaints from users that in the absence of light the viewfinder noises and blurs, making manual focusing impossible.
@ZWadePhoto
@ZWadePhoto 3 күн бұрын
I think the viewfinder is pretty good. It gets a purple glare with side light which one of the others do, but, I shoot in low light very often and being able to see my exposure is better for me than OVF ever was :)

@Bizon-q2u 3 күн бұрын
@@ZWadePhoto Thank you for your reply. So I understand that in lower light conditions the viewfinder is useful? Does digital noise interfere a lot with shooting? Sorry for the questions, but so far I have only used the optical viewfinder :)
@ZWadePhoto
@ZWadePhoto 3 күн бұрын
@@Bizon-q2u i personally find EVFs easier to in all scenarios. Since OVFs show you what the scene is, they are only useable when you can physically see your subject. Also they will only ever show you what the scene is. EVFs don’t show you what the scene is, they show you what exposure is. But there is also the benefit of turning that function off, then being able to act kind like an OVF and showing you the scene. EVFs are very helpful when shooting in dark scenes. If it happens to look noisy because it’s VERY VERY dark: 1. It doesn’t reflect that in the finished image. 2: , the benefits in my opinion outweigh that. 3: those dark situations are probably a small percentage of what you’re shooting so MOST of the time you won’t be dark enough to notice. I would rent before you buy. And when you rent, do it for a week not a day. Give yourself time to adjust to the EVF. It took me about a 4 days to not even notice a that the EVF was different. It became “normal “

Nothing wrong with the lens in the 2nd pidgeon photo, it’s a case of shooting a long necked bird (which Subject Detect has troubles with compared to the regular-necked birds), and you’re shooting over water on a bright, harsh day, which will introduce atmospheric disturbances/mirage/shimmer, which impacts sharpness/detail. Add to that, shooting against a very busy background. All that combined, the deck is stacked against pretty much any camera/lens.

This should be interesting, as my Nikon Z8 should be here this week, with an initial "filler" 24-70 f4 S lens as I use the F mount 24-70 f2.8 all the time on my D850 and D800. I'm looking at eventually getting something like a 180-600 and maybe something in the more wide angle range like the 14-24 f2.8 or the much cheaper 17-28 f2.8 lens, and then using the F to Z mount adapter for my other F mount lenses, many of which are Tamron lenses that I am extremely happy with.
