I am Paterson. I became Paterson. I paint for myself. Other people are my welcome guests, liking them my paintings or not because this is up to them, not me. My painting makes me happy, the only love which did not went wrong. That's enough..

So this a long comment. Be with me - If you were the only person alive, the first person, noone else in the world, you would not be able to make movies if you could not invent every single thing that lead to the creation of movies by yourself. The creation of art itself happened because there were people and when there were no people, there was the hope that there will be people who see it in the future. And then In a world where only you were left alive after everyone passes away, you would still only be creating movies because people existed and made all those equipments and brought to life the very idea of capturing life in a still image and then having it reeled together to make a movie. So even if you were the only person alive and you would still make art, it will always be in relation to people. Either people gone by or the hope that people will exist tomorrow. So it's never a question whether you're making the movie for yourself or others. You never existed in isolation, you never will. So by making things for yourself and sharing it you're already making things for others. Atleast to me. P.S. I recommend reading Tatsuki Fujimoto's works - Goodbye Eri( a great 1 volume story about movies & creators) Look Back(a great 1 volume story about art & creators) Fire Punch (an experimental post apocalyptic post ironic hero's journey that's got a lot to do with movies, the main villain's motivation to destroy the world is movies. I'll just say that much without further spoiler. ) For me these works captured the collective humanity it takes to create movies and art in general and made me think and come to terms with of a lot of these question regarding artists and art.

Thank you for the comment and for recommending Fujimoto's works. I’ve never heard of them before, but they sound super interesting and look so aesthetic...

Hey, my name is Andrea and I’m primarily a screenwriter/director living in LA. I’m So grateful this video was made, I can’t stress that enough. I’ve been feeling this sense of uncertainty with my work and this redefined why I’m making my art. Thank you!

I know i wpuld definetivly keep writing and drawing, probably also keep taking pictures to me making movies is a colective effort and some of the best people ive met has been making movies so i dont know how i would handle that. Also i need people to tell me i should keep making movies because im very self concious and critical about them so yeah thats a factor too

I would. I've made so many things only for myself and it has helped me a lot. Plus, always thinking about an audience when making art can kill your art.

Yes I think I would. But they might not be always narrative. I love playing with the camera, experimenting with editing and exploring sound design.
@gillian_h20Күн бұрын
How would you make a movie without a crew anyway? I think I do this for me and also for others, but not for everyone, because not all people will like my work I guess I do it for me and for the people who can understand me and appreciate what I have to give I do this to express myself to the world, and then I can find human connection in that process
@zanejacquot7123Күн бұрын
Maybe. Next question.
@paulssss54632 күн бұрын
I would still make things, but it wouldn't be the same. An artist's relationship to their work vs the audience's relationship to the same work is worlds apart. To me, art will have a point even if you're the only person left. But art is incomplete without the audience imo.

I appreciate your advices, but I’m a little confused on what your overall intention is. If people want to express themselves through different art forms and they don’t know which ones, or they do know but they’re afraid they’re not popular art forms, that’s one topic. If people know for a fact that film is the art form they want and they’re afraid they won’t get the chance to make a feature, that’s another topic. If an aspiring filmmaker makes projects similar to the examples in this video, that will get them “noticed”, but will it be a ticket to enter the industry? Will the higher-ups watch those projects and believe that the creator is the right fit to make a film?

Funny enough I always classify Tarantino movies as comedy’s. I don’t get why people think they’re anything but. Pulp fiction is my favorite movie for many reasons but a major one is because of how damn funny it is

First of all we must understand what comedy means: Tragedy. There is not such thing as "happy" comedy, Comedy is a series of events from tragedy, this is evident in the book 'Divine comedy' by dante. If we pay attention, Chaplin's comedy or any jim carrey comedy is based on inconveniences or personal tragedies. it's psychological in many ways

Title made me think of John Demme's "Something Wild" starting out as a romantic New York comedy then turn on a dime with Ray Liotta into a dramatic movie. His next movie "Married to the Mob" wasn't a great comedy but "Silence of the Lambs" went full blown horror. Comedy is funny because it has a grain of truth to it.
