The problem with buskers is that they always think they make people happy. WRONG! A lot of times, I wish they would just F. off. Stay in the tourist area! I just came back from a city with tons of buskers, and let me tell you, playing saxophone in the metro during morning rush hours and/or when people try to talk on their phone is more of a nuisance than a blessing.

Many thanks for the videos you've posted, some great advice there and interesting info re the frequencies preferred by the human ear, never considered that before. I used a sm58 for years for gigging/busking but recently started using a sennheiser e845 with a bose s1 pro street amp and this pairing seems to work better for me. I lived in galway for many years and used to busk there, are you still busking there?

I actually like how coins are relatively large denominations in Europe (Yes, Ireland is in the EU) here in the US the largest coin in general circulation is the quarter-dollar. A dollar is worth about the same as the euro. We use tons of one-dollar bills. We have dimes which are a tenth of a dollar, nickels made of you-know-what metal that are worth 1/20th of a dollar, and the humble penny, 1/100th of a dollar. So after a good busking session I'll have a lot of $1 bills, maybe a few coins, some $5 bills and maybe the odd $10 bill, and someone will have dropped a $20 in. Four times so far I've gotten a $100 bill, which makes it a really outstanding busking session.

I'm really cheering for you. You sound good and well, it helps being a young handsome guy. Singing + guitar is a good combination and most people can't sing so you're head and shoulders above the competition right there. I'm old and play solo trumpet so I'm not nearly as visually appealing but I think I get "points" because trumpet is considered a difficult instrument.

Great! I play trumpet and am pretty sure if I lost my day job I could survive on it. I'd have to go to living in a car or out of a storage unit but I could feed myself and keep myself clothed etc. Actually I'll be eligible in a few months for my country's retirement benefits it'd not be a lot, about $1000 a month but that would pay for a room and I'd get about $200 a month in food stamps too. As it is I'm only busking on Sundays but it's a nice $40-$60 maybe a bit more for a couple of hours' playing and last Sunday I worked out a song that went over gangbusters.

It does get tiring. My tip is to play one set at the evenings, especially on weekends and chilling through the day. Like you know us rockstars DO! Recording on the night and sleeping through the day 😂Also playing up beat music and improvising on the guitar, helps your mind rest from singing the same songs. Also don't be afraid to just sit on a chair, and play in less busy streets. That way you can just hangout there and people sometimes would approach you and say Hey play me something music man..Once I couldn't be absolutely bothered while im just chilling playing guitar and people started to come up to me!.. I even once was playing while it was WAY TOO HOT and i sat between two parked cars in the most awkward postion and STILL hit one of my records. I always say. IF YOU CAN'T FIND THE RIGHT PLACE, BECOME THAT PLACE.

If you look up a place on Google, at least here in the US, it will show up a little bar chart showing which hours the place is most busy or less busy. This is handy if you want to go someplace but avoid a big crowd. However, for busking you want to be in an area when it's got the most people. And I saw that the place I most often busk near, has a higher peak during lunch time than in the evening. So I've tried getting out to play for the lunch crowd and it's paid off well. Conversely, it's a waste of time to busk around here from about 2-5PM it's just dead. as it's probably dead in the morning also before 11 or so. So as a professional busker it would make the most sense to play during lunch, then during dinner and take a break inbetween.
