The time signature change was introduced in the Broadway version, though it was sung by Mistoffoles there. The Austrian production the next year (1983) returned the singing parts to the titular characters and that’s basically the one used here.

@ It's mostly this version to my knowledge, though I can't *really* speak to it personally: I've only seen the show live once, a regional production about 20 years ago, and iirc they used this version. The one big exception was the 2019 movie, where a number of arrangements were reverted to mimic the original London version.

I saw it twice. Once on Broadway and years later, on a cruise ship. You wouldn't believe the talent of the cruise performers, most of whom performed CATS in London. Great show all around. xxx

For those who don't know: Cats was originally a book by T.S. Eliot. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber got the blessing from T.S Eliot widow Valerie Eliot to make the poems into the musical. ( The book is called Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats)
