A week ago I learned that Brennan and I are the same age, and that made me feel terrible; I'm currently unemployed, living with my parents and feeling like I didn't accomplish anything. Watching this interview really put on perspective that him and I have had really different lifes, with different challenges and opportunities, and one) he got were he is because he had the support and chances I never had (not that he didn't work hard for it, he obviously did) and two) Things can change and all the learnings and knowledge I have could help me tomorrow, if I don't give up.

I hire people all the time. A GPA tells me quickly whether you could be bothered to do the little things in school growing up. Because that’s what it ultimately is with the exception of a 3.8 or something like that. Did you spend the time you were asked to on most assignments and tasks for no other reason than it was requested of you? That’s the indicator I use it for if I do end up seeing it.

This is something you literally CAN'T do in my country. You can't attend high school until you are at least 14 years old and you can't attend collage/uni unless you've got your highschool diploma.... And the age limits go for homeschooled kids too (I am also pretty sure there are some mandatory years you HAVE TO attend school because of ✨ socialization ✨ and social skills, kindergarten is mandatory for example) So... Can someone simply explain how is this possible? Are there "just" some exams you have to take and that's it? No other rules?

I feel like most employers don't value the skills that organizing regular D&D games takes. Not only public speaking, presentation skills, improvisation and communication skills but you more importantly have to be able to manage lining up schedules and try and get the best out of a group of very different people. Especially if you are doing any public DMing for rotating groups of people like Adventurer's League or as a DM for your local game store to help teach new people.

This was such a fantastic talk between two people who are so wonderful and inspiring. Some people are truly put in this world to teach, inspire, and create a community. And, I can't imagine a more worthy, beautiful cause to dedicate your life to.

-34:14 It’s heartbreaking that people have this experience, that they feel like they’re “too much” or their personality is a “burden” on those around them. He’s clearly beloved by fans and his friends/family, but the fact that’s still a thought in the back of his head makes me so sad. Intense amounts of respect for him.

This has been my personal experience as a 26 year old who back in school. A good reason to have a good GPA is scholarships and Grants. They also help build connections within school to the right people who do look at GPAs, especially in STEM programs.

I had never seen/met someone who had been homeschooled that wasn’t socially awkward, so I didn’t peg him as a homeschooler, but this actually makes sense in other ways 😂 Very cool though and kudos to him!

I would say that likely has a lot to do with how wholesome he comes across, public highschool is a literal hellscape of cliques, bullies, and hormones for most.
