"Brilliant" means the classic round diamond cut -- right? (Newbies show up at these KZbin videos and won't know what "Brilliant" means."

You need an unlock/lock feature for mast head and quill rotation. Also doo stick alignment pin ¬ch. Make sure rotating head backwards and upright does not hit mast.

@GemWorks Жыл бұрын
You're welcome! I honestly can't remember what time it took to cut this simple cut. As I still had used the cumbersome angle sensor, maybe 2 hrs? With my new machine (see part 19) I guess it'd be one hour.

@@GemWorks thanks for replying,I live in NZ and am trying to get some idea's to make a basic faceting setup without spending too much money.I want to try cutting something basic so I'm amazed that you got that much done so quickly.I understand that good equipment makes all the difference.I can't wait to get cutting but very hard to find what I need here .Need to use my imagination to get things rolling . What's your favourite material to facet! Thanks for the inspiration mate!

@@kirklovell9164 I was at this point some years ago 😉. Not sure how to come to a good and reliable equipment to reach my goal to do precise gem cuts. I chose the way to dig into the tool making technologies (lathe, cnc, etc), which I don't regret. Alternatively keeping eyes open for a used quality brand faceting machine also is an option. Good luck for your endeavours!

It's not monolithic because you poured too slowly and in two or three separate pours. I think putting the entire mould into an oven would help to make it solid throughout without interior cold-joints.

Great video! I accidentally knocked the arm away from the mast on my Ultra Tec with a stone in process of the final finish. The stone is ok, but it left a tiny pivot in the tin lap I've used for years. I have a lathe. Do you think the small scratch could be filled? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
@GemWorks Жыл бұрын
If it's only tiny, so that it is smaller than any facet you cut, I personally wouldn't do anything. If bigger, filling might work, but you have to heat up almost the whole lap and a lathe is needed for sure afterwards. So maybe not filling, but turning away the lap's surface until the scratch disappears would also work.

Thanks! yes, another head could be used. however, it should be checked that it can be moved away from the lap far enough for the 90 degree position.
