Best way to think short and long is snare drum = short note, bass drum = long. Play eights long = kick, quarters short = snare. Or reverse it, 8ths short = snare / quarters long = kick. Long / Short vernacular came to me from big band playing.

What’s that your pad and is that a foam pad or a rubber gum
@JackBennettDrums9 күн бұрын
Its actually a Gopro for the side angle I normally use in my regular videos. The pad is a Prologix, heavy resistance pad (hardly any bounce). Fantastic pads!

This vid was exactly what i needed. total beginner here and finding the right kit has been so overwhelming with all the options out there. ur sound demo and the way u explained everything really helped. I liked how u even talked about little things like the kick pedal feel and the drum module layout. these kind of details make ur reviews stand out. keep up the great work!

@RaghuDevarukhkar36822 күн бұрын
I really appreciate the level of detail you went into with this review. As someone who’s been playing on acoustic kits for years but needs a quieter option for apartment practice, this breakdown helped a lot. The sound demo was especially useful, and I like how you pointed out both the strengths and weaknesses of the kit instead of just hyping it up. Definitely leaning toward this as a budget option now.

great work Jack!! Syncopation's just the source of neverending creative drumming concepts. i guess it's all because Ted , unlike the rest of the many drum method books from the last centuary, left it all so open for interpretation. The drum community went to town with it (and still does), because of that. Cool video, well demonstrated and explained.
@JackBennettDrums16 күн бұрын
Thanks man I appreciate that. Yes you are right on the money, the interpretation is the best part, there are so many things you can do I just touched the tip of the ice berg!

such a great groove! What are you using for your kick drum on stage right at the beginning of the video?
@JackBennettDrums16 күн бұрын
That's actually a Sleishman 16x14 (16 diameter) floor tom, that I converted to a kick drum. Pretty huge sound for a tiny drum, even when not miced.

I am deciding which one of 3 rides I will keep today. I have a 22“ K Custom, a 21” K Sweet Ride and a 21” Avedis. The first is too Jazzy/washy and the last is too loud, too low and with a bell that I don’t like. I’m keeping the 21” K Sweet Ride.
@JackBennettDrums16 күн бұрын
Yeah the Sweets are fantastic cymbals, great all rounders. I still have my straight 20" K ride as my main go to ride, does everything.

If I use a buffer towel on the snare to soften the sound, my gost notes are difficult. Do these notes require a bare hesd?
@JackBennettDrums16 күн бұрын
It's all in the technique and stick height, go for super low ghost notes and don't let them get louder as you increase speed.

@JackBennettDrums3 ай бұрын
The hiptrix are ok but they aren't very bright and they die out after a couple of minutes. These are the Rockstix HD, they are impact activated and the globes last a long time! Check them out at: powerstix.io/

I‘m really tempted by your course as I think your videos on here are already very helpful. I‘m interested in Congas and have never had an interest in other drums. Do you think it still males sense to subscribe or is the course kore tailored to people who play a variety of drums?
@JackBennettDrums5 ай бұрын
Absolutely it's geared to people like you! There's 28 lessons on congas alone, plus I talk about how conga parts fit in with timbales, bongos and other instruments in a Cuban percussion section etc, so the patterns all have context. Same with congas in pop and jazz styles etc. Plus everything has playalongs etc. Once you're inside, you'll see what I mean - give it a shot!
