Glad to see I'm not the only one who's noticed the increased sensitivity of the analog stick when it comes to leaning. I can go incredibly fast down the rail section of City Escape, so I was surprised when I try the same technique in the PC version. I've gotten much better at being more gentle with the controls, but it's crazy how easy it is to mess up your flow when it comes to grinding rails at high speeds.

Sonic gens modder here, mods are not gonna be supported for this version for a numerous amount of reasons, the conversion of audio formats from the moddable Cri Audio CSBs to the not really moddable Cri Atom ACBs make all mods that use custom sounds to not work, the model files use a newer version of the he1 model format and uses a newer version of havok too for the skeletons, skeletal animations as well as for physics and collisions. So stage mods need to be reworked with a newer version of sonic glvl’s hedgeconverter and havok converter. Custom models have to be reimported and basically the game is different enough internally to not be compatible with mods from the og game. Hell I tried to backport classic sonic’s model into the og game and yeah the og game crashed that confirms that the model data is different so model mods would have to reconvert everything.

I watched this video when i was 6 when i could barely read. When I first saw this game I never got to play it but I thought it was the greatest thing on planet earth. When I saw this video I genuinely thought it meant bad as in a good thing like badass or something, not even taking the contents of the video into account. Needless to say I was a dumb child.

In my opinion, I think combat in Sonic could work, provided it doesn't overstay it's welcome. Take something like Project 06 with Shadow. Most of the enemies in Project 06 don't take very long to defeat, and if they do, you are given the tools to end them quickly (at least for Shadow). If I were to compare it to any other game with combat, it would be best compared to Batman Arkham Asylum. You are at most, using 4 buttons per combat encounter and the enemies are usually very simple to take down. But you are rewarded more points for being stylish and completing a combat encounter without getting hit or breaking a combo. And if there are enemies that require more than just simple punches to defeat, you are given tools to make them vulnerable and there are usually only one or two of them in the group of enemies. Sonic is often all about spectacle (his raw speed is a spectacle on it's own), making you feel cool for pulling off insane feats. Even ignoring that, there are many characters who would make sense to be using melee attacks. Amy, Knuckles, Rouge, Espio, and Vector come to mind. Your comparison of Sonic to the Flash is really stupid. Firstly because you forget that the Flash exists in the DC universe. In which, there are many opponents for him that wouldn't just be defeated by mindlessly ramming into them. Secondly, you never explored why the Flash ending the conflict with a single punch was a good thing. This has been a major issue with the character since his inception, his enemies (usually) are not balanced around him. And when he either stops to talk or punch at normal speed, it's because the writer is making him ignore the painfully obvious solution to his problems to create artificial tension. There is this guy Madvocate, who has made a whole career out of pointing out the instances of the Flash's plot induced stupidity, especially in the DCEU and the CW show. Just because Sonic is like the Flash, doesn't mean I want him to repeat the flaws of the Flash's writing. Not like you couldn't do the same for the Sonic series. But the fix to this is to just give him enemies that actually challenge him. If your hero or villain solves the conflict way too easily, put them in a more challenging situation. As a writer, you control what happens in the story. This is not rocket science, stop pretending that you don't know that's possible. And finally, your example of Shadow the hedgehog is a blatant false equivalency. For what I have heard from the critics I follow and from most people who have seriously examined the game, the gunplay works just fine. Sure it doesn't add much to the gameplay and the only reason it was to be utilized was to deal with enemies quicker, but it is otherwise mostly functional. You say it is dumb to stop and shoot the enemies but don't elaborate any further. And you clearly don't have an issue with length, so you have no excuse not to. It really do seem like you are opposed to the ideas of Sonic characters having combat or ranged attacks on a conceptual level. I don't think ranged combat can't work in a Sonic game either. Especially when there are characters who do wield ranged weapons like Tails, Silver, and Omega. The thing that made the guns in Shadow dumb was how realistic they looked. Just stylize the designs of the weapons so they don't cause tonal confusion and so that they look like they fit in Sonic's world, and problem solved. There is also, of course, giving them more applications in the game beyond just dealing with enemy health bars quicker. It is all about gameplay flow and which feature fits with which character. I don't mind when Sonic has more combat encounters, because it makes the next bit of super speed hit that much harder. The lows define the highs, if you will.

This game is awesome! But it's OK. I still play it and have poured hundreds of hours into it! I just love running around the open zones and completing those platforming challenges! While the platforms are scattered around with seemingly no cohesion, I think they're still well designed and add to that mystery of looking AI generated, which helps with the backstory of Sage, and I don't mind the platforms being suspended above the ground, as I still think the game looks great. There's just something about it, the aesthetic and the music, and especially the story, that makes me want to keep playing it. The enemy and boss designs are stellar. The titan fights are highlights, though gameplay wise, they are really easy. I agree about Cyberspace, and I don't mind them reusing old levels as long as they are fun. I wish the combat was a little better, and Sonic's parry timing should be changed across each difficulty. It's bizarre that they didn't do it for Sonic yet for other characters they did. With the latest patch, the physics are better, it's less buggy, but the difficulty has been eased, which was in response to the complaints from fans, but I wish they did that as a choice, rather than replacing the previous difficulty. But despite that, I think this is better than Shadow Generations. I think it has the soul of an open world Sonic game. Though I do wish they'd further update it a little more, as it would be perfect for me. Do you think they'll still update or patch this in the near future? I'd love it if they could fix the pop-in. I can't believe it's been a year since the best Sonic game got the best update! I find all playable characters fun to play, though not as much as Sonic, of course. They made the platforming challenges much harder and more open-ended, less linear than previous ones, which were too simple and automated. The new ending is a mixed bag for me. But the story is even better than before. What makes this game better than others is that I think it does playable characters the best. It also doesn't waste your playtime with non Sonic gimmicks as much as otherSonic games, especially Adventures 1 and 2, and Sonic feels great and fast to control. I disagree heavily when people say it's a Breath of the Wild ripoff as while it's clearly inspired, it also has a lot of differences, and I think I like it more. I even like that some challenges make use of momentum and make you think outside the box. The puzzles are mostly not challenging, but more like movement exercises, and i don't mind doing them. Overall, a masterpiece ✨️ Yeah, I don't mind the reusing of level layouts as the new movement makes it feel different. I similarly don't mind the koco quests, with most being optional, as long as they're not too annoying or pacebreaking. The worst part is probably the pinball minigame or the laser puzzle or the crane task. Cyberspace looks exactly like Generations, but I do like how they at least added the digital effect to make it feel new. Also, I like the presentation. I think the animations are quite good in general, better than in previous games, and I don't mind the realistic artstyle. While it's a triple A game, I do wish there were some CGI cutscenes, but that's probably because of the day-night system, so everything runs in real-time. As I said before, I really liked Frontiers, and it was almost perfect. In my opinion, it can only get better, not worse. Forces, while I think it's very overhated, and I kinda like it, I also find it kinda hard to defend, and I feel it was the dip in budget and quality and passion, it terms of both gameplay, design, story, and presentation, even though I don't think it's souless or lazy like many say. Frontiers, to me, felt like a high budget game, even though some corners were clearly cut. Not to be a blatant hater, but I don't think we'll ever return to that dip of content in the 2010s, as while I think saying it was the definition of mediocrity is a bit harsh, I don't think you could get worse than that. The next mainline game might not always be better than the last, but at least it won't ever be of that quality, let alone worse. Frontiers might have been great, but it can only get better, and that's hard to imagine!

31:22 it's like how artists flip their canvas to notice mistakes better - you see it from a different perspective so it helps to notice things that are out of place. Same with your scripts and tts software - you hear it read aloud and listen to it so it's more noticeable when something's strange than when you're re-reading it yourself

I just came here to watch an old video about Sonic '06 and all I found in this comment section was people mentioning comments that were defending this game! Like holy shit! This fanbase is something else. Some people would say here that this game would've been good if it wasn't rushed. Well, if that happened, this game would've been just mid at best! Because you would still have the awful story, the bad controls, the half-assed side characters, the bleak hub worlds, the terrible side missions, Shadow's crappy vehicles and the ball puzzles. Just like that, ambitious or not, this game was doomed from the beginning. You like it? Okay, more power to you. But just like that you can't defend it like it was a misunderstood masterpiece at its time when it clearly wasn't. It's a fundamentally flawed terrible game, end of story. So don't even try.

It's wild how this guide is outdated just 1 year out because - there's a new mod loader that works for Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (SA Mod Manager) - 1 mod that replaces all of the rendering fixes and higher quality textures (SA2 Render Fix) - and a mod for fixing the grind rail controls (SA2 Input Controls) If you find the time, I recommend coming back to this video to see how much of it needs to be updated, perhaps a much smaller part 2/adendem video
