Ive got a 2015 crf250r with 407 hours on it. Ive had the valves adjusted twice and it still runs great. Im not a racer but i do ride desert and im pretty hard on it. (I should note that i understand that this engine is on borrowed time. But at this point im kind of curious how many hours i can get before it comes apart.)

Hi, do you know what size are the vent hoses that come out of the carb? Is it 3mm or 4mm? Thanks,

hi, why does the 7.48mm OD shim actually measures up to be 3.74mm in diameter? (1/2 the size specified)
@kootenaycat Жыл бұрын
I'm adjusting the valves on an '04 CRF450 I bought recently and one intake valve has no clearance. When I calculated the shim size I need it's not available thru Honda, I need a 1.10mm and smallest they sell is 1.20mm. I'm guessing I need to pull the head. Is it possible the valve itself deforms or is it usually the seats that pound into the head?

You are in for a valve job mate, everything under 1,30 is setting you in danger of catastrophic failure.

Hello there, question for you since you are well versed in Honda CRF’s. I have a 04 that idles fine and sitting it will throttle up fine however when I kick it in gear and try to take off it will bog down really bad and almost shut off. I checked the accelerator diaphragm which seems ok, any suggestions on what to check next? Thanks 🙏, great videos btw they are a huge help.

Tried adjusting the valves on my new to me ‘04 yesterday. The cam lobes were at the 180 degree position from where they are shown here with the piston at TDC and the right side timing mark lined up. Anybody know what the hell I’m supposed to do? It’s not measurable from that position, as the exhaust rocker is tight when I measure it there.

I think I have this right now, if the clearance of a particular valve after 20 hr riding is .004'' , and we need .005'' to be in spec, we would use a .003'' shim to bring it to spec. Using mm's for this job may be incredible for the Japanese, but for me it is much more work when it could be so simple using SAE.
@bikersoncall2 жыл бұрын
7:02 You're making so much easier than everyone else for calculating the needed shim. Shame the don't make available SAE shim sizes. I think I'll mark the equivalent sizes in shim assortment case. I would guess that the bulk of the CRF R And X models sold are sold right here in the US.

5:40 Seems like great info so far, but it's pretty scary to see all those shims sitting in an easy tip over tray right over the top of the engine.. lol

Good luck. It’s an absolute disaster putting them on. I’d recommend that you stop. Wait a bit until you have the patience to do it again. And use the smallest wrenches you can to try and get the the cables back on.

Nice job! We just did a similar video about the oil change on our Nautique - so KZbin suggested your video to us. :) I wish changing the oil in a car was as easy as changing the oil in our boat. It always seems the filters are in horrible places, and the drain makes a mess. I like that nice drain hose and the easy-to-reach filter placement on these nice V8 boats.

You have explained this in a very easy way too do, a lot of people are put off with video that starts going on about measurements to work out the right shim size this method works perfectly well and makes it easier for people to do themselves, well done 👍.

@henryfreund_2 жыл бұрын
The more proper way to do this is to measure your gap, then pull the shim and measure the shim with a micrometer. Do the math to see how much less/more shim you need to be back in spec. Only have to take everything off once.

Hi, thanks for the vid. My kid's 250x has all that milky white goodness in the crankcase. We drained it. Oddly, the radiator is completely full. I wonder if water got into the engine via the oil plug, as it appears to be stripped as opposed to the head gasket-- anyway, do we need to strip the engine apart to clean it or is there a way to flush it? Thanks.

So I can basically put a shim in until it’s matches with my spec like put a shim in test it if to tight need smaller shim to loose bigger shim but it’s have to be in spec
@jurgenbuntinx12 жыл бұрын
Yes, for instance, if you do intake(0.16) and you cannot put in 0.14 you need to place a smaller shim and vice versa
