Hi, great presentation. Quick quest though and I know you removed part of the guard, but why does it come standard with a finger notch, when there's a guard present?

Looks like my 1928 , it came from a WW2 vets son in Flagstaff back in 1980. Fine tool for most game and terrains.

They've changed the design of that knife a bit since 10 years ago. They did away with the dark coating, changed the pocket clip (which isn't as good as the old one), and the blade is now 420 instead of 3CR13, still about the same steel really. All in all its still a bargain blade built like a tank. The fact that they're still selling these things hand over fist is testament to it's value.

Regarding 2:45, the sharpening stone in the pouch on the leather sheath can be easily replaced if broken or worn, because it is readily available for the Ontario 499 Knife. Regarding 7:38, the name "Blood Groove" is a misnomer, because its real name is called the Fuller. The Fuller on a blade improves its strength & rigidity by increasing its surface area through a cross section while also reducing its weight. For example, an I Beam has improved strength & rigidity over that of a flat solid bar. Similarly corrugated sheet steel is stronger & more rigid than flat sheet steel. Regarding 8:03, to remove tree sap from the knife, use turpentine and scrub it with a toothbrush. Regarding 9:57. the two holes on the hand guard are not for use as a bayonet. Instead the two holes are for lashing on cords to be affixed to a pole for use as a spear. A real bayonet such as the M7 or the M9 has a large round hole on its hand guard to fit over the muzzle of the rifle as well as on its pommel, there is a spring loaded mechanism to attach onto the bayonet lug on the rifle.

It's sad that all the keyboard warrior haters can't seem to understand that in a survival situation you might not have a folding saw, a hatchet, and a hammer. Once again, thank you for doing a review that actually shows what that knife can do.

Great review. All the haters that complain about you using a knife in ways not intended probably dont have the intestinal fortitude to put themselves in precarious situations outside their comfort zone. Thank you for the review!

I own two 7 mm mausers. Neither of them is like the one in this video. Both are custom built and the older was built when I was a youngster and my father was in gunsmith school. It is I believe a 1896 action with a custom built barrel. I have harvested my two largest elk with that rifle and it is capable of handling my handloads well. It shoots great and with a 22 inch barrel and an old Weaver K3 scope it is my perfect pole gun. My property is forested with lodge pole pine. My other is a Ruger M77 I had re-barreled from a .270 to a .275 Rigby with a Shilen 24 inch barrel. I have yet to hunt with it and my loads are heavier for it. It is a wonderful caliber. If I could only have one rifle, horrible thought, I believe it would be my 7mm.

Cool rifle but you might wanna get your facts straight about the rifle. It might be a ww1 era rifle but 7mm wasnt a common rifle used in ww1 and the sling is defenatly not original to that rifle.

Turns out my amount of recoil is effected by barrel length. My barrel being 18.5 inches increases recoil which probably causes a lot of my issues. Every one of these videos Ive views so far has been standard length.
