This should be titled, "Poor Mans Spool". Welding the spider gears together will make this permanently locked. This is no longer a "differential axle", it is now a "locked axle". In the drag racing world... Where you go straight and no turns, they install what is known as "spool" and this has no spider gears to alow for turns or any slippage or slowing of either wheel. 100% of the horsepower is transfered to both wheels.
