I paid for keys to be cut at Home Depot and they didn’t work. I filed them down and they worked. I used the files to make one out of another old key I had for my house I sold. I have a couple of them and I made a key that works in my door here 3000 miles away just filed like 3 parts down. Need to get one of these so I can experiment more

About as good as "store-bought" locks get I guess. There are no shortcuts with disc detainers like raking or bumping pin tumbler locks or jiggling wafer locks so it's very unlikely any bad guy will even try to pick this. And while Reliabilt is a cheapo brand at least now everyone can go out and buy a decent lock- I'm kind of surprised they did this!
@AlbertLebel
@AlbertLebel 4 күн бұрын
@@P_RO_ yes, this is why I personally consider disc detainer locks higher security even when stock or basic as well his one. No knucklehead is going to rake it or anything like that. And double ball locking means no shims or knife attack.

@AlbertLebel
@AlbertLebel 12 күн бұрын
@@jaehanson781 seems the cam may have become separated from the linkage. Must be more of a mechanical issue. If the handle turns I would not blame the lock itself. I used the 2nd method but instead of buying the tool, I cut a 3/16 strip out of an aluminum can about 1.5" long. 3 to be honest but in the end 1 would have worked once I knew how to handle them. I put electrical tap on one end to protect the fingers. No blood and I found the combo in less than 2 minutes, THANKS!

I saw this lock online. What outdoor padlock do you recommend?
@AlbertLebel
@AlbertLebel 16 күн бұрын
@@sdacman Higher end probably an Abus rock. Otherwise maybe just Paclock. Keep in mind, on most external locking systems you have to weed out all weak points of entry. The padlock itself may be great but what is it locking ?, chain ?, latch ?, hasp ?, etc. Just make it hard enough so they move on or get caught.

@@mickconnolly5784 it still baffles me. It’s so affordable to make good lock and they still choose to make absolute garbage. It’s simply a case of greed. Another expose' of why cheap locks are hardly better than no lock at all. I make my knife tools, decoders, and notch decoders from cheap automotive feeler gauge sets from Harbor Freight. I get several tools for under $2 and they do work but are a bit short and not terribly durable. On some of these kinds of locks you can just use the round end of a feeler gauge as-is.
