I don’t understand the alarmism. With the demand for Mothership, Death in Space and Starfinder there is clearly a market for Sci-fi/fantasy TTRPGs that doesn’t eat into the fantasy TTRPG market. I am not excited for anything being released by Hasbro, and already have several sci-fi/fantasy books like the aforementioned systems so I probably won’t be trying Exodus, but I’m sure if it is well done and merketed well it will do fine alongside DnD.
@envytee9659Күн бұрын
It's obvious why this is happening. WOTC doesn't have an answer to Starfinder... and this may very well be that answer. Honestly, if I were WOTC, I would take a page out of Paizo's book and have Exodus run on the same TTRPG system as 5e, with some tweaks ofcourse. For those who aren't aware, Pathfinder 2E and Starfinder 2E both run on the same system, so its easy for you to play both if you know how to play one. Not only that, but the content from one game can be fairly seamlessly used in the other game, at least mechanically. This is how things should be.

From what I can see in this video, Exudos seems so different from DND. There is a big difference in the narative genre. DND is fantast, while Exodus is Sci-fi. They seem to be catering to different audiences. So I don't expect moch competition between the two games. It reminds me of how Paizo has both Pathfinder and Starfinder. I don't know much about Starfinder, but it does seem like its own seperate TTRPG. If Exodus is successful, I can imagine WOTC releasing more TTRPGs of other narrative genres. There can be a horror game, a western game, a superhero game etc. DND has a kitchen sink approach to fantasy. It seems that fans can push that a bit too far. One nice solution is to release seperate games to better accomidate it. I am guessing that is the motive for Exodus.
@AboveTheTableNewsКүн бұрын
Yeah, we originally thought this could be a Starfinder/pathfinder situation, but the complete lack of involvement from the D&D team actually puts that theory on ice in our minds.
@alexllenas4607Күн бұрын
They really aren't stepping on D&D toes, Exodus is looking to be a full space sci-fi RPG while D&D is medieval High fantasy, even if they are people HB the complete game and only leaving the d20 to make it sci-fi, you will want Exodus for space and not D&D.
@AboveTheTableNewsКүн бұрын
That is fair to a degree, but lots of people are big fans of both genres, which in turn does make it a competitor to D&D, especially if it has no interaction with 5e given that none of the D&D team has worked on it.

James Ohlen along with Drew Karpyshyn were instrumental in the creation of both Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect. They are both working on / producing Exodus. So hopefully it will have the same kind of rollicking, dark sci-fi tone. The early trailers are pretty cool and narrated by someone who sounds suspiciously like CR’s Suntree. Arcanum Worlds supplements for DnD were well produced, especially their first, Odyssey of the Dragonlords. That was a full 1-20 Classical Greek inspired narrative with its own comparing setting which was distinct from Theros. Fingers crossed Ohlen steals fire from the gods again.

Valhallans do all the same stuff but bigger, harder and with only a fluffly coat to protect them. Mordians, Catachans and Kanaks all seem scarier than Kriegsmen
@98gmann5 күн бұрын
Not entirely, the valhallans, cadians, and mordians will fight ridiculously hard no doubt, but they still value their lives to an extent, if only minorly. They have a life outside of the soldier role, even if only minorly. Kriegsman on the other hand see their lives as a resource to be spent much like bullets and shells. A krieg officer even had squads suicide charge and die instead of shelling an area because the shells were worth more. And not a single kriegsman would even think twice about this action. They're basically biological robots bent on killing themselves in hordes to ensure victory. They're just one step away from being zombies by all accounts.
@Localfriendlyanarchist5 күн бұрын
@98gmann Valhallans walk over minefields to clear paths for tanks. They encircle enemy C&C and use themselves as a static target for barrage. They do trench warfare in -40°C. There's this one battle they lost ten million (more gw nonsense ha) taking a fortress without air or artillery support. They're definitely harder and scarier than Krieg. Kriegsmen are bred to fight the way they do. Valhallans choose to. Mordians are as disciplined as Kriegsmen but smart. Catachans are tougher and smarter than Kriegsmen. And Kanaks run around with the heads of your comrades hanging on their belts. Kriegsmen are tough but I think there's tougher
@98gmann5 күн бұрын
@ I have no doubt there’s tougher in certain circumstances, but kreigsmen are on a different level to most. Have you read the Krieg novel, or the ciaphus Cain books? Because the krieg book has kriegsmen in trenches with cadians and even the Cadians are incredibly impressed and a bit calloused because the kriegamen show them up just by being there. As for the Cain books, it shows that the valhallans are awesome in arctic environments no doubt, but they have their own faults like refusal to obey orders and even traitor guardsmen in the first few books, which would never happen in the krieg units. As for the catachans, that’s apples to oranges. They fight an entirely different war and purpose so comparing the two is null, one’s an ambush and guerrilla warfare regiment, the others a siege and attrition warfare regiment. Plus the catachans are made to be a partial meme regiment, if youve read “Patient Hunter” by Phil Kelley, you’ll know. In truth, comparing any of them is kinda null, since they never really fight side by side since they’re in such drastically different wars. All other regiments are trained to be the way they are, but the DKoK is literally just born that way.
@josefptacek1135 күн бұрын
@@98gmann I thought catachans are rambo parody, same as kriegsmen are parody on WW1 trench warfare
@98gmann5 күн бұрын
@@josefptacek113 They are, though the DKoK are taken more seriously in writing and lore, while the catachans are a bit more action movie esque. The memes are real though, in the book Patient Hunter, when some kroot eat afew catachans, they begin wearing red bandannas like rambo and start disobeying orders out of rebellion like rambo would. So the rambo parody isnt just surface level, rather its in the DNA apparently.
