So, in 2024 can you still get in there or do you need a permit?

I remember being there on a class trip. I specifically remember the alpine slide - it just ended and my cart flew off the track and hit the ground fast and hard - I had the wind knocked out of me! I also remember the pool and it had lots of Gypsy moth caterpillars floating around-I swam in it anyway. All in all, I still had a good time being there. I wish I had the opportunity to learn to ski there.

I skiid this hill with my Wanaque Elementary school ski club in about ‘88-‘89ish. Maybe 1990??? I remember 3 runs- beginner, “inter” and “ex”. There was 1 or 2 lifts and a t-bar and all the way to the side there was a tow rope on the bunny slope area. Great memories, mostly about which girl I would ride the chair lift with. My Dad brought me here a bunch of times too. We crashed his late-seventies Fiat in the parking lot when a kid came out of no where on a sled. Thanks for the video.

I grew up a few minutes from here, and my family has lived in the area for about 90 years at this point. Really fascinating to see this covered. My dad grew up skiing here, and my uncle actually worked on the alpine slides as a summer job back in the 70s. There's another abandoned ski area a few miles down the road in Moultonborough, which I think was called Ossipee Mountain, as well as a small ski coop which is still in operation (Red Hill Ski Club). Skiing has changed so drastically since the midcentury. These small hills were affordable, local recreation for small communities. It's really sad to see so much of gone.

It was pretty common to have a lift system broken into lower/upper mountain surface lifts for that time period (60s and 70s). The main issue was more that there was essentially only advanced terrain accessible from the gondola and none of that had snowmaking. Put them at a big disadvantage during low snowfall winters.

I believe there is still a Craigmeur Ski Club in existence - they had a club owned lodge up around Killington, VT in the early 2000's, maybe they still do.

I grew up in this neighborhood and spent many days tromping around those woods with friends, often stumbling upon abandoned structures. Glad to know more of the history behind some of them! Thanks for the trip down memory lane, this was great :)

The basement was bathroom/ shower area and tile area was kitchen. Bar and restaurant was to far left after you first walked onto the main lodge area. I have been in these structures in 80's and 90's. Sad to see all in dis repeat. The maintenance building still exists but that is it or maybe destroyed now from the video you just showed. Have not hiked this in a long time.

I loved to ski there Friday nights. It was such a cool place to ski in the early seventies. Great views nice people. Another great place was hogback Mountain in southern Vermont it’s closed now also. You could ski close the home. Without the busyness and lots of people like Mount Snow.

Just found this video.Born in 1971, I grew up in Holyoke. Moved out in 1997. Went to Mt Park as a kid and teen. Learned to ski at Mt Tom. Mt Tom was a ski resort first, then they added the alpine slide, then added the water park before it closed. The wave pool was added in front of the main lodge. At the lodge you could grab food at the cafeteria line and sit down and eat. Or head to bar in the basement (before my time) where the .50 cigarette pull handle machine was. Where you walked down "the wooden" steps was the Ski Shop. And you were correct on the location of the ski rental building. There were multiple buildings for chairlifts, ski patrol, staff and medical. Mt Tom offered a Chairlift Day Pass, Night Pass, All Day pass and a Season pass. Ski jumps were not allowed and if the ski patrol caught you "jumping" they would "Warn you" or "Pull your pass". They were strict. If you got caught, they took your chairlift pass from you and no more rids. If you had a season pass you could get it back a week later. I remember a season pass was $150 in the 80's. Day or Night pass was $40(???) If you turned around on the chairlift you see the CT River and homes in South Hadley lite up at night. Hard to remember but there were multiple Ski lifts, also a J-Bar and a T-Bar. Snow guns ran all season long to add additional snow to the slopes. Which were also fun to "jump the pipe line" carrying water to the snow guns. The steepest "diamond" trail on the mountain was my favorite - the Waterfall. Final fun fact. Mt Tom is a ancient Dormant Volcano. Cheers! Thanks for bringing back some great old memories!

18:57 I skied here many times at first in my young years in the later 60’s, later in middle/high school and even later than that in my late teens early twenties. Never got back there in my second resurrection of skiing. I have not skied in a long while now, and don’t expect to go back to it. Mt Tom is still fresh in my mind though, I remember skiing on rocks and ice often. I also remember that one of the kids in my ski (?) class perished after hitting a tree after he fell and landed off the trail. This was long before helmets were a thing. The T-bar also comes to mind as well a rope tow. Sad to see it in this condition.

So sad to see, it was a beautiful place. Skied the in early to mid 70s. Also at Mt Peter. Used to be Great Gorge as well, their all night ski parties were a blast. Would always align with like the coldest windiest nights of a season, weirdly predictable. Learned to ski at Hunter Mountain in NY. There was a place near Stirling Forrest where me and friend would take our motocross bikes (RM125, YZ125) and ride. Such a cool area. Sorry to see the change. Have done most of my skiing in NH (Wildcat, Attitash) and Vermont (Killington, Jay Peak) when living in NH. Skied 4 or 5 times a week in NH in the late 70s early 80s. Used to get allot more snow. Some of the best times of my life spent with friends on the slopes with friends. Enjoy your videos though really tinged with sadness balanced against some amazing memories. Sort of haunting, imagining all of the people that had been there, and uncountable people hours of fun times had.
