The story is that Chrysler's ad agency stole the music outright (original recording) from the China album by Vangelis. Vangelis had not given his permission nor was payment sent his way for nearly a year, during which the case went to court. The result is that, for a short time before Chrysler dropped this campaign entirely, there were Lynx commercials with the China theme "re-recorded" that sounded so lame that it's no wonder that the whole thing was dropped. But the originals with the original music certainly made an impact.
