Hydraulics for Norwood was the best investment I made in the mill. The log lifter is a little weak but great for storing slab wood to pick up with the forks later on.
@BigelowWoodcraft13 сағат бұрын
This is exciting. I've never seen much of the hydraulics from Norwood. This is going to make life much easier for you and 20 plus feet of milling is awesome. You'll be able to cater to the timber framers. I agree on the stellite bands The tank did look bent on video. I wish you lived closer. I'd love to spend a day in your wood yard.

At 16:00 couldn't you have raised the camera end of the log and gotten more full length boards?
@williamprophett91483 күн бұрын
@mcsawmill on this case, no. The end of the log was an actual "L" and not a "taper." If I lifted it up, I would have been sawing completely diagonal to the grain. The boards would have been completely unstable and weak. If you think about the long grain "straws" being diagonal to the faces and only a few inches long, that would better describe it. I kept the long grain of that little log parallel to the cut line. I did end up getting a couple longer boards on the bottom. Worked out perfect for the customer. He bought all of both logs😁. I hope you had a great New Years day, George!

@williamprophett91485 күн бұрын
@Hunter-cl6bw start with all the basics. Tracking, mill level, blade level. You need the mill rails level to check the band for level. Once those 3 things are good, the band should cut straight. It's not very complicated unless there is something we are missing somewhere else. Is the motor going to full RPM? Are you pushing too slow or too fast? What are you cutting?

Good video Bill. I’m gonna have to check my alignment again now, makes sense how adjusting yokes is not the right way to make blade parallel to bunks. I didn’t adjust mine a lot but I’m gonna check it. I totally agree that the drive side bracket is way too flimsy and needs a gusset. Overall though I love the roller guides way better than ceramics
@SLCFarms10 күн бұрын
I’ll be honest so far and I’ve only cut a couple logs but man those rollers seem like a pain compared to the ceramics.

@@SLCFarms The rollers are FAR less of a concern or headache than the ceramics. Literally ZERO comparison.

supposedly....Cooks have larger diameter rollers. I would use a 2-1/4" dia roller. which, would give the adjustment slots of the roller guide brackets more room for adjustment for down pressure. Have you ever broken a Stellcut blade? Or any style of blade for that matter. How many hours cutting do you get out of them? I broke 2 this week on hickory....fairly wide at 14"w up to 22"w in 20deg temps. They just broke while idling as I rolled the log. I suspect the blade got warm during the cut and cooled too quickly. IDK

@BigelowWoodcraft I was really lucky that they happened at the end. I cut off the waves, and the slabs came out great! They are beautiful. It's good data, though. I just got to see what a Stellicut band will do at the end of its affective cutting life. That band got really heated up.

@BigelowWoodcraft I'm actually going to do a "forensic video" on the band. I'm going to measure the set and see if there are cracks. Sharpen it and run it again. This one band has a few teeth knocked off it and that could be where the heat came from in the White Oak. However, it certainly had some time on it. @rickcremer8544 I talk about that in the video. Possibly, it's taken tumbles. However, it had the flaw riding a straight edge from the beginning. So, I'm guessing it had always been out of alignment. Works great now. In all honesty, I cut by eye 90% of the time and it really never caused an issue.

Good points Mr. Prophet. I am a big fan (as opposed to fanatic) of that family and their spirit/work ethic. I hope those 2 young girls, and their mom, are trained in the art of active self-protection. Unfortunately, there are too many crazy people in this world, and they are drawn to beauty/fame. Hint. Sig P365…. Just sayin. That said, I’m MORE concerned, when those 2 talented girls run that processing operation with their long hair hanging down to their chest. Anything that has a belt, pulley, chain, etc., means NO hanging clothing or hair.
