I'm someone who only recently found out about lacrosse I find it interesting, atleast historically. Modern america has almost no relation at all to pre-colonial america, with seemingly the exception of lacrosse, which is an evolution of native American ball games. As a history buff I find it interesting for giving us a glimpse at what a world with american culture defined by the natives, like how much of modern new Zealander culture is based of Maori tradition. I’ve played both AFL and NRL extensively AFL is moderately aerobic but has nowhere near the physicality of NRL. Put a marathon runner into a boxing ring for three rounds and you’ll see what I mean as an analogy. When I say “moderately” aerobic, I’m not kidding. On television it looks like every player is moving, but in reality if you’re playing in the backs, you may not move to any great degree for sometime as the ball travels along way from you. It’s deceiving. Quite frankly i’ve grown away from the sport. I find it boring, tedious, and a little effeminate. Rugby league has evolved tremendously in the last 25 years through a combination of rule changes and the physical dimensions and skill sets of the players. Just about any rugby league player would make a pro team in the AFL however, I doubt any AFL player would cut the mustard in NRL. The AFL fanboys will be outraged over this, but I’m sorry, the truth often hurts and doesn’t care about your feelings. You might find it easier to understand the AFL because there are a few rules which means there are a few consequences when you fumble. Don’t be deceived by that anyone who can kick a ball in a backyard can play that game
