First time I’ve seen someone say the real plane where the peel P50 is made instead of the uk. I live in the Isle of Man so I’m happy you’re saying it’s made in the iom instead of the uk

Had two 245's when i had a young family. Volvo sold an optional third row (rear facing) seats, perfect for children. In later years, various SUV models offered a similar third row option but there was a time when the 245 really was the only logical choice for families.

But WHY is it called Amazon? What is the story? Bizarre name for Sweden.

It was supposed to be called the "Amason" after the a greek mythology about warrior women, but the name was taken by a motorcycle so they changed the "s" to a "z"

I currently own a '66 Amazon and really love it. It's a great conversation starter and readily puts a smile on my face every time I take it out. It certainly isn't the fastest car on the road, but any more it's one of the more unusual cars and gets tons of compliments and thumbs up.

The lack of butt cheek made the rear line much cleaner IMO. I deleted the full diaper on my 242 turbo

From 1986 to 1989 I sold Volvos, first at Westcott Volvo in National City, CA, and then at San Diego Volvo. My love of Volvos began in 1985 when as a Chevy salesman at a Chevy dealership in San Diego, an old man traded in his 1981 Volvo DL4A on a Chevy Nova. I always familiarized myself with trade ins, because we could sell new, used, and abused. I fell in love with the car. I then went to work at Westcott, and was always among their top salesmen. The reason for all the above is to establish my credentials as being knowledgeable on Volvos. The 240 series were excellent in every respect. The 740/760 series were pieces of absolute crap, as proven by the fact that the 240 survived its replacement (the 740) by 3 years. My 1983 Volvo 244 DLA, lasted well over 300,000 miles (as I recall 375,000, but I don't remember her exact mileage), and my wife's 1988 Volvo 244 DLA was still running at over 225,000 miles when we made the mistake of trading her in (the car, not the wife). Had my car's engine not blown up, I'd still be driving her. She was sand beige, and we named her Sandy. I miss Sandy.

What I don't understand is how drivers coped in harsh Swedish winters with their heavy snowfalls in a rear drive vehicle such as the Volvo 122. No front drive. None of that. I LOVE the 122...please don't misunderstand, but driving a Volvo, as well as an early Saab, must have been some trip ( so to speak,) in deep snow there...especially in the outer country outside of Sweden's main city. Peace...🙏♐

Kind of more of a 142e fan, great handling for the time and even more advanced for its day with 4 wheel discs, electric fuel injection and electric overdrive for 1971&1972.

Amazon is definately not a tank car, they rusted as much as any other cars from the period, despite being treated underneath, the engines went bust as much as on other cars as at least 60-70% of the Amazons has their engines exchanged already many decades ago etc, etc, I own an Amazon so I know what I'm talking about!!!

I owned a 2013 Avalon Toyota hybrid for five years - it was great. Toyota’s recent offerings in the USA have front faces that look angry or like the car is going to swallow up anything in front of it. Volvos look great to my eye so I bought a XC40 this year (2023). I hope it holds up.

I'm not sure the GT failed, it was a stylish car more than a performance car with it's base clear silver paint job etc.. The first GT's had 14" alloy wheels, the 15" 5 spoke were known as Turbo rims. It seemed to be equipped with overly stiff springs from the V6 models, but IPD provided an upgrade for that and all 240 models. Have you reviewed the Saab 99T?

The M6GT is a really small car, even for a race car. Yet, look how spacious it looks with the door open and Bruce in the driver's seat. Master McLaren was not a very large man. Bruce drove the M6A. His co-driver drove a stretched car labeled a M6B. I think it had a six inch longer wheel base.

How quaint. A successful high level 5.9L race car that put out a whooping 320hp. With in four years, a Can Am car needed almost 1000hp to be competitive.

You certainly crammed a lot of interesting and obscure information into 5.27 minutes. I personally prefer the Karmann Ghia styling over the bespoke 914 contours, thanks for another entertaining upload, cheers CarSwede.

The 914's styling wasn't helped by the US mandated front side marker "warts" or the 73-74 with the bumper guards, but I'd argue that a 914 with fender flares the slimmer 916 front and rear bumpers is actually visually appealing. Of course to each his own!
