Here in East Tennessee, due to all the tight hills and thick forest trees, there are few places one would shoot more than 100 yards - often much less. So for my area, a peep is just right. I once set up a range on our property, but it didn't last long. A tree, along the side of the range was pulled over at a 45* angle, obscuring the target from the bench! (somebody didn't like my range!)

I have a Remington 742 .My problem was ,some rounds fired and ejected fine, and some rounds didn't! I always thought it was the ammo . I ,beleave it or not ,found the green plastic box for a Remington 742 in a Good Will store in Pensacola, Florida, years ago! And that's where it quietly lives out the remainder of its years! I have a Mauser in 3006 that has been built with a Douglas Barrel ,a buityful stock ,Williams sights, and a scope mounted on it ! It's a much better rifle to me! Because of my shoulder injury ,I will not fire the 300-win mag !

Hi point has took a hard bashing but I’ve owned one in 40 S&W and it ran everything I could send through it. Some rounds looked like I was firing black powder. I had only one problem but wasn’t but the weight. Would like to see them shave the weight down n bring the company up with the rest. I sold it some years later for a 100 and gave the fella 2 boxes of fmj and a few hollow points. It ran flawlessly and soon as I gave it to him he ran a mag through it then starting playing with the sight adjustment. I shook my head and close that door.

Considering getting a Stribog for range and practice, I’m torn between the 10mm and the 22lr I understand that the 10mm is stronger, but the price of ammo might be too high. The .22 sounds better for practice, but I’m worried that I might regret it later for wanting more power.
@CloverTac
@CloverTac 4 күн бұрын
not sure i can help your dilema there except to tell you to pick up both 😂🤣 i guess you gotta ask yourself WHY do you think you may want more power (btw, this, YT, is a horrible place to go back and forth, odds are i wont get your reply, so hit me up on social media or something for an in depth convo). there are always other things that can be used for power, lets say for hunting or self defense or home defense, there are other options. for the range fun, 22 makes 100% total sense right?. and as far as this one goes, i gave it the #` spot on my favorite guns of 2024 (video on the channel) so that should give ya an idea of which route i would go. also, there is a video on the channel with the updated hardguard too if you wanna check that out.

Just need an optic, not a red dot lover gonna find a scope. I sold my fn pistol because of the price of the bullets and stuff trigger, can’t wait to plink around the homestead, jackrabbits beware!

These rifles were made for the hunter that fires just a handfull or rounds per year. My dad was on of them. each year he would fire 2-3 sight in shots at about 75 yards, If they all hit a 10" paper plate, he called it good. He bought a box of 20 rounds about every 2-3 years. During the hunt usually 1 or two shots but possibly as many as 8 in unusual situations as running or wounded deer or special hunts. I have the gun now and it is fine but probably has had less than 400 bullets down the tube( its a 1956 model). It will probably be in my family for another 100 years and still be fine. Just remember, it was not designed as a high volume shooter.

I'm a Boomer and an Army veteran from the 1911 era. I don't think the extra width is worth 3 extra rounds. A Government 1911 is slim and much easier to conceal.

Heya! New to the homesteader, what are your thoughts on a flashlight/laser mount on this thing? How would you personally go about it?
@CloverTac
@CloverTac 7 күн бұрын
oh wow, that is a great question! there are not many options in my opinion. one would be to just screw a rail section directly to the wood (not gonna happen for me). two would be to use a "clamp' style picatinny rail on the barrel (again not gonna happen for me). i think if i wanted to add picatinny for flashlight or whatever, i would go with a picatinny rail that attaches to the existing sling swivel, but also extends the swivel so it can still be used. amzn.to/4gL2iOE (affiliate)

@ just came in the mail today, after the first few round I agree with you on the holographic mounted sight. The ghost ring is fine but I just have a darned time hitting what I want to hit. Maybe I just need to spend more time shooting paper than shooting cans before I get too gung ho.

Is there any way you can show the offhand paper target. That comes with it? I have mine. And it’s a 15m offhand that is amazing. It lets me know. If I mess up, it’s me. Not the pistol

assuming i can find it AND that you reach out through socials or website or something, yeah i don't mind BUT not sure what good it will do when you see here what it is capable of... off hand is NOT the way to test the accuracy of the actual fiream. off hand lends to too much human error

I've read some articles and comments from different people on the reliability of the 740 and 742. It seems to be a combination of a few things. 1. If you were shooting surplus m1 ball ammo, the potassium chlorite in the propellant would corrode the bore and parts of the gas system if not properly cleaned. 2. If you were shooting more modern hunting ammo, it would be a higher pressure round that the gun didn't handle as well and would batter the internal mechanisms, resulting in the headapacing issue you talked about and leading to more wear on the bolt/recoil system. 3. Improper maintenance or not fully cleaning the firearm. The recoil/gas system is really susceptible of failing or not working properly if the it isn't properly cared for, and alot of owners at the time didn't really know how to deep clean these guns or field strip them to clean them super well, besides putting oil in the reciever or barrel. This is just the research I did, so there could definitely be something that I missed.
