Hi Carlos and Laura, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Pacific North West (BC). We were in the Azores in 2000 (Sao Miguel, Pico, Flores, Faial) and we are going again in March 2025. And my family also once lived in Oakville. ;) We were hoping you could do a video to talk about healthcare on the different islands. Can you see a physician within 2-3 days? What does an emergency room (ER) wait look like; how many hours to see an ER physician? Do all of the islands have clinics? Love your videos, and hope to meet up one day. les

Merry Christmas to you! Unfortunately we are not qualified enough to do a healthcare video on all the islands. I can only share a couple of things that we have learned from our own experience on our island of Pico. The most important is that if you need or prefer to be close to a major hospital, than there are only 2 islands that will fit the bill; Sao Miguel & Terceira. On all the islands and even villages around the big islands, you will find small health clinics. The island of Pico has 3, so for anything major you would have to go over to Sao Miguel, Terceira or even Faial(there is a small basic hospital here), or even mainland Portugal; it will all depend on the severity of the health situation. At the end of the day we feel that the healthcare on the other 7 islands needs to get a lot better, consistent, upgraded etc. They need more quality medical devices & doctors. The wait times can be a lot better, a lot of times it's way too slow. The locals, tourists & expats deserve better. Stop spending money in less important things; health is where the big need is! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Winnipeg, Manitoba, where the wind chill keeps it a cozy -20! Funny to hear you’ve been missing Pico-I felt the same way just 2-3 months ago. Usually, within three weeks of returning from the Azores, I’m already longing to go back. It’s amazing how deeply the islands can pull at your soul. I’m really looking forward to the New Year, as we’ll be passing through Toronto on our way to São Miguel. And yes, always book early-I’ve had mine sorted since August!

I love your videos. You know my son Wayne and of course Chris. You drove by their house on the way down to the swimming hole. Your video brought back good memories. I have visited there the last two falls, '23 & '24. 5 weeks in '23. That drive, you took down, I have walked all of that. I love looking at everyone's gardens. I hope to come again October '25.
