Be careful going to SkyWest now. They'll get you to sign an 80k training contract. You have to stay 5 years or log 1600 hours as PIC to be released. You lose your medical, don't pass training or leave early you own them the full amount with interest

@AeroNerd yeah, they're not forcing people to sign the contract. Those who sign it get priority for a class date. Most people are signing it, so if you don't you'll never get a class date then the CJO expires

Being an older dude, A&P, and working full-time, I can no longer split my attention between flying and working. I struggled through instrument and commercial while working full time. I had education assistance from the Union which was a big help. Part of the reason I chose my employer is so I could learn as much as I could about transport category aircraft systems, which I'm still doing every day, in hopes of possibly making it into somebody's right seat. Just can't push myself to complete multi-engine right now and make the next few steps. Thanks for the video.

Omg this is what I have been wondering since I started flying! I am currently attending a part141 flight school and there are always career fairs to go to where there are soooo many options I have no idea what to do! OK, so I actually had one question in your viewpoint was in doc training pretty hard in learning all of the new jet systems and the checklist flows and emergencies because right now I only have to worry About eight different emergencies are there a lot more for jets? And is it easy to get used to them?

@@andrewseneker7515 the company you choose to fly for may have a well built training program that has graduated 1000s of pilots before you who I’m sure had the same questions and concerns you do today. I would trust the training department to get you the knowledge needed for the aircraft you will fly as well as doing your part which is to study, study, then study some more! You’ll do great!

Hi! Is it easy to move from part 135 to part 121 airlines? Some say if anyone starts their career from part 135 it is really hard to go to part 121 airlines. So I’d like to clarify that.

Q: if presented with two options A: defer all training for maybe a year or two and work a job that would be best for you financially to one day pay for all your flight training or; B: stay working more intensely, locally, paying for training as you go (part 61) and wish yourself the best of luck? I trained all over for initial. I was part 61 so I got a lot of training from KZbin to be honest. Lots of the same information you’d normally have to pay a ground instructor for is free online and on KZbin. I got majority of my training in Florida Daytona Beach, Ormond, Flagler airports. Got my multi at Palatka

Hate to break it to you, but most scholarships and grants are going to be for kids graduating HS headed into aviation. That's not to say there aren't others, but even so, it is hard to find money for flight training if you're not in that age group. As you start to google aviation scholarships, you'll see what I'm talking about. A great organization though, is OBAP. Get involved as a volunteer and you'll become eligible for their scholarships and also network with people like me who've been in your shoes already and can provide guidance.

To be honest, no one cares that you are “African American”, you are a U.S. citizen first and foremost and most likely have no actual direct recent connection to Africa or any of its countries within so you should stop characterizing yourself based on ethnic background: again, it is absolutely irrelevant and no one cares about that. Also, the fact that you seem to be seeking an opportunity to rely upon on a handout from xyz agency / government body because of your ethnicity is telling us about a lack of personal credibility and character. You are not special but you can be if you put forth the effort by meeting (and exceeding) the requirements for the aviation position that you are seeking.

I’m actually retired Air Force but I can still give some tips on Army and other Armed forces. Long story short..YES having flight hours in the military pretty much puts you to the top of the candidate list. I knew a fighter pilot who went straight to the majors and completely skipped regionals. That little cheater!!! 😆😆 keep a look out for that video coming next week!!

hey, i live in nyc and just started my ppl training and had a slight question. i know nyc is a super busy airspace and bunch of massive airports, from your experience in your regional or others do you think theres a good chance of getting a nyc based airport like jfk or lga or do the give the low seniority fo's the smaller bases with less traffic. And really funny when u mentioned the steep turns because i just did that today and great to hear i wont stop with them after ga :)

I’ll be honest the info blows my mind. The one piece of advice I thought would be helpful, was not just looking at a single dom and thinking you’ll get it. Whats crazy to me from an airline pilot I guess, is having someone say “oh look for what wholly owned that flows into the majors” after just referencing airline pilot central. I can’t tell you how many times I have looked into those forums by simple searches from legacy pilots by saying they started at a regional owned by their competitor airline they wanted to be hired by, and they got hired years before their buddies that started at the regional their legacy carrier owned. Being a ramper with over 2 1/2 years of experience I can’t tell you how many skywest pilots have said the legacies don’t like to hire from them because in theory they are poaching their own pilots… not to say SkyWest pilots never get to a legacy carrier because they do. But isn’t always the best option to wait for flow… I have heard PLENTY of mainline pilots say that.

@@Misterfreezeable Sorry I just I thought it was pretty simple. Basically looking up a domicile is not the best route because you aren’t guaranteed that domicile ever, and who knows how long it would be until you can get that domicile. I have heard from many major carrier pilots that the best way to get to the actual carrier you eventually want to fly for, is to fly for their competitors regional because they like to poach pilots away from them. Hopefully that makes better sense.

@@gecaf11 airlines retirement is 65. Some corporate jobs won’t have an age limit and can potentially pay more! And yes Corporate IS hiring!! It would be better if you already went in with an ATP. They would most likely pick a candidate that already has an ATP. Even better if you can get a type rating, that would be great too and increase your chances of going corporate… however you may be coming out of pocket for the majority of flight training up to ATP plus the type rating. Some type ratings can be as high as $80K+

@@Aerialphotovito indeed! Nothing beats quality of life which the airlines can quickly take away if you don’t plan accordingly. To have the best quality of life, live AT YOUR BASE or wherever domicile you choose, otherwise you’ll have to commute which SUCKS!! Less days off (traveling on your days off to get home) if you have to commute. But the flying part is paradise!! 😁
