Brilliant workshop Jamie, this format is excellent and something to continue with on the Crossfader channel.

Quick rule of thumb for the eqs: Too tinny: hi's down, clashing: address the mids, mud: too much bass. You can not have a "pre set" way to do eqs, you have to listen to the mix and use your ears as the guide. That's why most DJs avoid it and just EFX mix, you can use sort of a "recipe" with the EFX that you can learn while eqs is all by ear.
