As someone from the southern US, the idea of driving on ice like this is _craaaazy._ 😂 I know it probably gets thick enough to support the weight of the vehicle, but ours doesn’t and it makes me so nervous anytime I see it. 😂

Won't the newer Subarus with the CVTs run into the same problems as the manuals?
@Chase_Schrader4 күн бұрын
The Crosstrek had a CVT! The CVTs don’t work quite like a manual where it’s fixed into a gear, they work more like an automatic giving you a much slower ‘crawl’

Hi Chase (my young Canadian friend) well, obviously, I dont drive on snow, but I have a set of recovery tacks ( not that I ever need them, owning a subaru), a snatching strap, tyre pump, shovel, lots of tools, zip ties, lubricant spray, an axe, wire, small nut , bolts and screws (in a plastic screw top jar), a saw, a knife, shackles, rags, fuses, and pretty much anything of value that I can fit in the tyre well. It's amazing how much stuff you can fit down there. 99.9% of the time, you won't need any of it, but when you're away from help, you'll be glad that you have it. Best wishes to you all from Brisbane Queensland Australia 👍 🇦🇺

Starlink is totally worth it, if you need it. It’s not cheap but if you can afford it or if you need it to help do your job it’s the best option that is out there. As far as I know. Maybe the only option. I wish Elon would come up with a satellite communicator like the Garmin InReach mini 2. I don’t know how many things can communicate with the satellites he has in orbit already, but if he did come out with something equivalent (and inevitably, it would be better, because it’s Elon 😊) it would become very popular very fast. And no, I don’t own anything that he makes..
@Chase_Schrader13 күн бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately it is the only real way to get internet way out here! That would be good idea, but I have heard rumours that we could see any LTE enabled phones using the Starlink network for off grid communications which would be amazing to see, since people wouldn't need to buy a new device!

Hi Chase, a little off topic but I was wondering what you do in inclement weather conditions or if it is buggy. I am asking because we have slept in the back of our SUV and it has worked very well. It is very minimalist which I love however when the weather is bad or it is baggy it would be nice to open a door to something, get in, make a coffee, etc all cozy and comfy.
@Chase_Schrader15 күн бұрын
Hey, that’s a great question! Honestly for me I make sure I’m dressed for it a hangout in the weather or under the awning/tent. That said if you’re using your car to avoid the bugs, you can get a mesh net that goes over the window part and allows you to open the window, letting some fresh air. For bad weather there isn’t as great as solution but but I have seen a window covering that has a protective vent on it from Orbis Overlanding!
@Alien279915 күн бұрын
@@Chase_Schrader Thank you, Chase. I guess it is also something that comes with age. We are in our fifties and now we appreciate the "comforts" more. However, I wanted to add that we are OK with doing the car thing for up to 3 weeks which I guess is not bad, is it? But we are planning on longer trips now. Across Canada and the USA so car sleeping will get tiring pretty soon unless you are young.

My 2012 Forrester had the evap code. Turns out a mouse or maybe chipmunk had chewed through one of the evap lines located on top of the fuel tank. It was an easy repair. I had to remove the back seat and fuel pump cover to gain access. Only took about 1 hour.

I like the idea of it mounted to your tent.. I feel if it was mounted to the rack in that spot once the tent goes up it’d obstruct it, but with how you got it to go with the tent shouldn’t ever have any issues !
@Chase_Schrader19 күн бұрын
Totally, I wanted a place where it would work both driving and when I am set up for camp!
@explorethewild9519 күн бұрын
@ imo I think you picked a great place ! If your tent opened just straight up I’d say other option be flat on top, but since it opens to the side you’d end up with the same style mount you already used aha
@Chase_Schrader18 күн бұрын
True that! The top mount wouldn't work great with a tent like mine
