Really nice video! Thanks. Adding to my IM play list. A lot more wipe outs than I am used to seeing. But then I'm starting 9 waves behind you. So not as fast. Ran with Maxxis Aspens last year. 24lbs. What have you found does well for this race?

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. I ran Maxxis Aspen 2.4 for the race. This year, I’ll run Maxxis Aspen ST 2.25 or 2.4…maybe something else if it ends up being muddy.

@@justinjewell11 yea inside line would have been nice there. The other guy didn't really go down - his bike stayed on two wheels (I held it up). I had to straighten my bars and got going again. Had to stop again because my first adjustment was still crooked. My attempt to bridge back was cooked after that.

42:09 Bro's mouth wrote a check his legs couldn't cash. In three years of racing I've never had anyone be so unresponsive about getting passed, especially when he cut in front right before the singletrack and then immediately slowed down. Then he passed you and literally created no gap. Most people with headphones on are better at responding than this guy was.

You missed out on the singletrack in the last mile or so, but you can go pick that up on Friday before the race. Or as my college professor used to say: "Don't worry. Anything that I neglect to cover in my lectures will be made up on the final." This is helpful for me as an announcer. I won't get a chance to ride the whole thing, but I still need to know what it looks like so I can talk about it. I also opened another window and sync'd up your strava fly-by so I could see where you were on the course while the video played. Here are my notes for anyone watching: @5:00 First singletrack @9:30. Smith Lake. No relation. @15:00 Smith Lake Road @17:30 First real downhill @20:00 Logging ops. Sand @25:00 Pretty single track @30:00 Dockery Road @35:00 2 Track. Flowing downhill @46:15 Climb before Guernsey Road @47:30 Guernsey Lake Road. More Climbing @54:00 Haynes Road @1:00:00 The long straight stretch to Boardman Road @1:08:00 More singletrack @1:14:00 Snaking downhill singletrack @1:20:00 Williamsburg Road. Fast section @1:24:00. Vasa Trail for days. Fast with big rollers. Note: The DNR flattened the Vasa trail in preparation for ski season, so it doesn't have the middle ridge anymore, so changing lanes is easier, but there is no berm in the turns.

Super cool event… bu gosh I question the tactics? Firstly, 30 minutes in and up that rise you guys have 4 up and have a gap, you ride across but none of you work together? Then the bunch catch you after burning a few matches and you hen nobody gets organised to chase, no one’s taking turns or riding in a proper formation? It’s like all of the place…. You guys are just working way too hard and your early front pulls were heavy watts! I was actually trying to take in the scenery but you guys are flying… 🤣👀 Anyways… thanks for taking me along and giving me a birds view of what you American flyers are doing on them gravel roads.
@justinjewell11

Tactics? There were no tactics. There were no teams either. I entered that event with a free entry to get a good/solid workout in. My goal was to go out hard, punch the climbs and hold a solid effort - could care less about anything else. I did each of those as planned. After the crash, it became more of a group ride. Besides, cycling doesn’t pay the bills at the end of the day for most of us so who gives a rip? Not me. It’s all about exercising for physical health, improving mental well-being and enjoying a hobby.

Nice video Justin. I see that you have the Thunderhawk and the B Jaxon. Im trying to decide on which one to purchase. Whats your opinion of each? Im 6'3" 200lbs, 33" inseam believe I will need a 58.5. Thanks.
@justinjewell11
@justinjewell11 Жыл бұрын
If you’re buying primarily for dedicated training, gravel/road or adventure racing, Thunderhawk. If you’re looking for purely adventure riding to spend a lot of time off road and in the woods, Beaux. Thunderhawk is a little snappier, but Beaux’s tire clearance adds a lot of confidence ripping singletrack or sketchy areas. I’m 5’11” with a 32” inseam and ride 55.5 in both. 57 would definitely be too big for me due to seat tube length. Dustin at Bearclaw can help you narrow size as well. He’s excellent to work with. Or, use Bike Insights to compare geo to other bikes you know fit well.
