Don't use poisonous flea sprays. Put Advantage or Revolution on your cat's neck a few times a year. I've been using those products for 30 years and they are absolutley safe and really work.

It breaks my heart to see an apartment cat gazing all day out a window, watching real, unatainable life go by. I did cat rescue for 40 years, but I wouldn't adopt to anyone who was going to keep their cat imprisoned inside. My own cats lived many happy years going outside (but not at night). I loved to watch my cats doing just what you say: watching bugs and racing around. I recommend not mowing the grass or weeds. Long grass and weeds are perfect for stalking!

Cats have the right to roam, Confining them is as immoral as caging a bird. This fact is enshrined in British law, if a dog causes damage or injury in Britain they are the responsibility of the owner and the owner will face consequences. If a cat does the same the owner is unaffected. Americans don’t deserve cats. They are just a social media prop that is tortured and destroyed. Declawing a cat is one of the sickest things I can think of.

Cats by law in my country have rights, one of which is free to roam. Which includes that any cat can go anywhere, and if a cat is on your property, you are responsible for its well being. So if it gets injured while you are home, you will be held responsible.

We are building these because we have 6 cats and 2 dogs and often foster dogs. With the foster dogs especially, having safe places for the cats to get to is a great way to treat new dogs around cats while keeping everyone safe.

Wonderful idea. Living in the country, I could do it but worry about other things getting in the house! (Mice, snakes etc.. using the cat door). I know there are magnetic collars etc.. but then the cat getting in trouble with a collar! 🙄 I guess there are too many trade offs for me right now, but I will keep this video as a start for someday. Thanks.. love this channel.

I have an indoor cat, Boris. Domestic short hair tuxedo. Total velcro, utterly loving, but separation anxiety. He's a 9yo rescue cat, and I've had him six months. Spent some time on the streets, got FIV, and quite a few scars. I thought a friend would be good. Two weeks ago I picked up another Domestic short hair cat, Ranga. He was ginger, 7yo, rescued by a cat inspector from a hoarder with too many cats, but spent 10 months in the shelter on gabapentin, being passed over constantly. He was head-bunting my hand in 2 seconds and my leg in 2 minutes when we first met at the shelter. But he had 4 pages of medical waivers to read and sign, including FIV, no teeth, and a bunch of minor things. Ranga never adjusted to the move. Boris was very accommodating throughout and after the slow introduction, and Ranga would calm down a little when Boris started grooming him. But he wasn't eating properly, and he was often fast abdominal breathing. He'd drink plenty of water, though. I fed him the same premium wet and dry foods the shelter fed him, and he always had dry food in a slow feeder too, if he really wanted to work for it. I had to sneak his meds into creamy cat treats though, as he rarely ate more than a few bites. And he spent almost all day and night hiding under my bed, or under the cupboard. I built a little blanket fort around the latter to give Ranga more privacy and a sense of place, which Boris respected. The vet I took him to saw some minor concerns on X-rays but nothing conclusive. Yesterday, 13 days in, I woke up to find he was stretched out on my kitchen floor, stone cold & not breathing. If someone above wanted him to end his life with 12 good days, with good food, not being passed by and rejected by dozens of families a day in his (admittedly rather nice) cage, being groomed by another cat, and getting as many petting sessions as he wanted (one time even muscling his way into my bed - good on him!), well, that inexplicable urge I had to detour to the shelter two weeks ago might have been planned. I bawled my eyes out after burying him yesterday, and it disturbed Boris a little. But we're good. I think he prefers it alone. So maybe it was for the best? Maybe?

I love this idea! I had a feral cat who hated to be indoors, so I had to let her out and was a worried cat mom, she was safe and lived to be around 19 so, I wish I knew about this. However, I wish that I have a larger yard....and a cat! LOL

Other people’s cats are defacating on my back lawn where my children play, not happy. I have a large cat run the length of my house, with a large veranda for shelter and flower beds. I have another cat kennel and run for my boy Ragdoll. I don’t want my blue tipped and flame tipped Ragdoll cats breeding with the local feral cats. In my neighborhood it’s illegal to let your cat roam off your property. Large cat runs are heaven for cats. I love this product. The only remaining problem is feral humans who come to steal your purebred Ragdolls. Some breeders buy large cat safe guard dogs. Guns are illegal here.

Thank you, I think this would be ideal with a couple of modifications. A smaller mesh, though A little less aesthetically pleasing, would help to keep small animals out, and a mesh roof would protect the cats from large predatory birds. Coyotes easily jump over 10 foot high fences, so a strong roof would keep them out, as well.

Some cats will hide, or are in no hurry to come out to greet their catsitter. It's good to have a bag of their favorite treats you can shake to get them all out of hiding at the same time. Some will come out for treats, others for their favorite toy or the sound of their favorite toy.

I normally use netting to keep them out of my garden so they dont pee in it. I give them plenty of buckets of dirt and grasses to lay in, play and dig in and chew on. my patio is like a jungle when it gets going every year. I just wrap the stuff I dont want them in or put pruned rose stems on top of the soils I dont want them in. sticks work also - small twigs suffice. granted its not a yard, but they are able to get over the fence or out the gate if they want. I do bring them in when the incredibly large birds of prey in my area are scouting food. I live just down the road from a lake and a wildlife refuge so the birds of prey are pretty dang big.

It doubles the life expectancy of cats to keep them safely enclosed, but they hate it, especially young, non-street cats. I’m not getting any more cats until I can build a safe catio, especially since a 20-year drought here in California has caused coyotes to move down from the hills for water, I live on the only stream for many, many miles. Every outdoor cat disappeared when this happened. I’m not going to risk that, nor their getting hit by cars, etc.
@9LivesToLive5 күн бұрын
Coyotes could jump in. I think the cats would notice one trying to dig under and run inside.
@Sweetdreamsatthebeach9 күн бұрын
Yes, we have many Hawks & Barn Owls. One time I did see an Eagle flying with Hawks chasing it over top of me in the driveway. We did have coyotes but seem they have moved on to better pastures. I would never take the chance with just this fencing because Hawks will still try to take a cat but then realize they can’t carry the cat but they have already caused damage in the cats spinal column with their talons on the cats back and then they drop the cat and will then go to the ground and kill the cat no matter what size that cat is to them. Hawks can also yank a cat out of its harness in a blink of your eye so don’t think your cat is safe with that either. These fences do nothing to protect a cat. A completely inclosed catio or porch with special steel proof wiring so a hawk cannot scratch his way through and then mesh inside the wiring to keep away mosquitos, etc. Unless you can cover your yard with heavy duty wiring from the sides and on top of the fencing your cat IS NOT SAFE. Coyotes can also DIG UNDER your fencing. They will do anything when hungry!!

So my cats gallop around the house after each other. They take turns with who is chasing but you said chasing was a sign of bullying. Does them taking turns chasing mean it is play or is it something I should discourage? They seem to enjoy it like zoomies times two but just wanted to check.
@9LivesToLive10 күн бұрын
Chasing can be a sign of bullying, but it can also be play. If they are changing roles between chasing and being chased, they are playing. If they confront each other and then one consistently chases the other, it could be bullying.
