Hello! I’ve been in the ABA field for about 10 years now (mainly as a BT/RBT, I have been a BCBA since last August) and I need a change in my life (compassion fatigue is real). Can we connect?

Thanks for the insight. I’m considering entering this field because I am now an autism Mom and this form of therapy is clearly helping my child thrive. I’m learning all about it anyway, might as well dedicate my time towards this career path. But good to hear about the challenges as well, thanks!

I felt the pressure as well and didnt even care about the stability of the pay because my expenses are way lower than the minimum i ever made. But the pressure of carrying and leading a whole family and team and being responsible for the team and my choices etc.

Hi! I am currently getting my masters for ABA with an undergrad in graphic design. I would like to transition to UX Research and I am almost done with the Google UX Certificate program. I don't feel confident I am prepared to get a job in UX with the Google Course alone although I have been doing the projects. It has taken me over a year and a half to get this far in the course on my own while working fulltime and having long bouts of lack of confidence. I'm nervous to leave the job security of ABA, but I really need something less stressful and more fulfilling with my creativity. Have you had consistent income/jobs since making the transition? What has been your day to experience working in the field? Do you have job satisfaction in UX? Do you feel fairly compensated for your work and expectations? Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It has been so helpful!

I can relate to so much of what you said! I want to stay but I also don't know if I can. However I would argue that PFA and SBT does have a lot of objective and measurable aspects to it and if practiced well should be completely objective and measurable. If someone says you just need to "feel it in your gut" they likely have not done proper training on it. It has been quite difficult for me to learn but it is very interesting!

I Accrude a total of 1136 hours for the concentration fieldwork. I also have the multiplier of 1.33 multiplied to this to equal over 1500 hours. I finished my masters and I'm ready to apply using the application but I just want to make sure if this is okay for my hours I have it under that and then it shows that the board will multiply my hours to equal 1500 is this how it's supposed to be so my application gets accepted?

I was with an agency for a few months. The parents kept on saying that they wanted to switch RBTs without telling me anything. I stayed with a client for four months before he aged out, but the other ones told me that "I wasn't a fit" after one week. This may be the reason why a lot of people leave too.

Would you still recommend UX design as a field? I have my masters in ABA and have completed some of the practicum but feel the need to pivot to something less emotionally and physically demanding. I'm a littler nervous about AI and whether or not the field is becoming saturated...

Excellent video! How do you see qualitative interviews with an exploratory approach? I can relate it to the knowledge of functional behavior analysis in experimental cases, like AB testing, usability test tabulation, and issues involving generalization. But what about asking questions to understand user behavior in a remote interview with only one contact? How can we comprehend the function of their behavior in this situation? Thanks! 😍
@behavioraltea375
@behavioraltea375 Жыл бұрын
The beauty with interviews is you should be conducting it with multiple people. Once youve talked to a few participants you start picking up on some functions/motivations/reinforcements :) And then we generalize! UXR is a little bit more overarching as opposed to ABA which is incredibly specialized. Its best to do generalizations in this field rather than being stuck with the granular information (this also has to deal with understanding your stakeholders motivations and needs, and how best to relate your findings to them in the most impactful way possible). Hopefully this answers your question!

I had a rough experience with my supervision throughout my fieldwork experience and the board audited my fieldwork experience and only deemed 52 hours acceptable out of 2,000. So now I am stuck at the BCaBA level until next year so I have been sitting on my degree since 2021. I just feel like I can't get over it but also feel really stuck. My current company is amazing and so supportive but the field as a whole and the work drains me.

I'm a semi retired woman who is on my second or so career in business. I am just trying to pass the the RBT exam,, I have already figured out on my own business senses that I wouldn't get involved in this career for the stability or money. If you need that, this career isn't for you. I am studying and learning the information for myself and my family mostly and plan on only working when I want to. I have other money and stability to fall back on. In my opinion learning ABA isn't a waste of time or money, I am being creative on how I put it to use for others and myself. I look at it as a community service, which I can afford to do at this time in my life. Good luck everyone 😊.
@LovingLifeasEmma
@LovingLifeasEmma 10 ай бұрын
I think people in a situation like yours are PERFECT candidates for RBT positions. However BCBA is a bit different when it comes to the time invested up front since you have to obtain a master's degree, 2,000 fieldwork hours, and pass a board exam. It's definitely good to think about before investing all that 😛

The parents know everything you are saying. They sit around all day drinking coffee on ssi checks from the kid (applying zero of the techniques we told them to) and talk about how much money we make and how we get it off thier kid and then how they can make it hard on us. Then, how they can test our knowledge by asking us trick questions…I swear I could body slam these assholes..I’m never going back to these cesspool of ungrateful shitheads again and thier kids can end up where they used too before ABA came along…..maybe that’s what they should research

I hear a lot of what you're saying here. The ABA science itself I absolutely love, the direct support with the kids, because it works and makes incredible changes in kids lives. It's the systems in workplaces that do not work, and the adults who are difficult to change.
