Good tips. If that doesn't work, you shouldn't have clipped their bàlls off. Get another dog

No, I’ve been throwing bumpers for him a lot and instead of retrieving him, he’ll just look at me and look at them and then walk away. I don’t know what to do.

This is perfect because its right where we are in training. I tried doing this in combination with Mini_t and struggled. Going to simplify and use this drill with "back" only. Where you giving any collar pressure or "bumps" along with the whistle? Or, is that only needed if a correction must occur?

Hey , So my dog fully understands recall , understands ecollar pressure and the potential of a ecollar. Do you have any tips if my dogs istraction is so high that when offleash he engages with a high istraction and blows through the ecollar and ignores recall. Do I bump up the setting/correction on the ecollar?

Lots of good things in this video. Maybe the best is to simplify. Glad you added the text about alignment. Also, the heeling (hold bumper) correction. Well done. Standards!!!

If properly FFed they shouldn’t spit it out and if they do you can use it as a teaching moment to do it right. I also don’t stop on the way back a bunch so they don’t slow on return

Bob always has the best training videos!! The little mistakes that the dog makes and how to seamlessly handle them is what makes his videos 10x better. Real life training… can’t beat it.

I love that you kept the trouble at the beginning in the video👍 i got a question though since i’ve never seen anyone training stopping with the dummy on the way back. I get it’s a stop whistle drill you say you need for later T line training and you don’t want to stop on the way out yet(cause you don’t what the dog to fail and go for the dummy i guess) but why do you choose to risk spitting, slow return etc when stopping with the dummy and not just use 1 or 2 helpers out that pick up the dummy IF the dog doesn’t stop on his way out?(doesn’t work with piles obviously😅) i’d be scared to mess up the pick and come right back routine.

I only use the ‘find it’ command. in Dutch ‘zoek’ or ‘zoek apport’ some dogs quarter naturally. Or I only use hand signals. And encourage him I blow on my whistle with the search noise. Like peepee peepeepeepee. Slowly. Sometimes low handsignals but not often or all the time. Let the nose work. Nice video❤

There comes a distance with our dog where he has the temerity to ignore the stop whistle. We work towards it and then after about 200m does his own thing so we’ve stopped working at that distance. Remote collars not tolerated in the UK. Interested to see how you build this. Will try and copy everything apart from e-collar.

I have a female American Lab and an English male Lab. Your depiction of their nature is right on The female is much more active and has more energy. I am 80 , so sometimes she too active for me. Both have good dispositions and make excellent pets. I prefer black.Labs because they do not have problems with fleas. I have had 3 black Labs and have never seen a flea on any of them.

So if I'm understanding the video correctly you stopped doing the lining paths and saw negative results and so now you're going back to doing them? Sorry the video kept cutting out as I was trying to watch it and I think I missed a few things.

Bob, love your work my man. Keep it coming. Need to hook up on Pateron. Hey my Labrador has these basics, albeit light on collar conditioning. She's very obedient and stops in the whistle, casts (not well), but she just won't run back on blinds. She keeps stopping and looking back at me every 20ft and doesn't want to go far before she turns around. But IF she knows there's a bumper back there somewhere, even if she can't see it, she'll run a mile with one "back" command to get it. She's also not good at lining. Is more lining drills the answer?? Do you do phone consultations? 😅

How do you deal with a noisy dog on honors? My guy was quiet and steady on his honors early spring and then we had a lot of time alone training. Back training in a group setting now and honoring after his marks. Tried prong collar corrections and he's basically giving the finger and they're not nice corrections either. So far the best thing I've tried is to make him hold a bumper and watch. He's quiet, and doesn't move aside from a slight whine. Otherwise he'd bark out of frustration.

we passed our HRC Started in spring and were very excited for that. Now For next year, id like to get him thru the next level. A bit of feedback for ya....a lot of us have dogs that were initially trained by pros like you, and then we try to advance the dogs. While my dog is collar conditioned, and has completed force fetch, could you possibly do a video talking about collar stimulation, when, how much, techniques while training, etc. I know there is some content you have put that previously that relates to that, but its an area I really struggle with. As an example, when to implement stimulation into Mini T, Force to a pile, and blind retrieves. Also....what do you do about dogs that are "collar Smart". I get better results when he is wearing the collar and he knows it its on. But, he knows when its not on, and then sometimes things get western. Might help to know im dealing with a fire breathing dragon/ high drive dog.

Is there a difference between blind and non-blind work with whistle stopping? Like should if it’s not a blind and she clearly sees it, shouldn’t send her and whistle stop her in training? Or should I only do that when working true blinds?
@Run12_1

My field lab (yellow) is wicked smart. She started retrieving at 2 months and being shot over by 3 months and actively working decoys in the Gulf of Mexico (I live in Florida). I recently started working blinds and introducing whistle stops. Now, even when I send her on a bumper shot From the bumper gun..she leaves slower and jogs instead of blowing hard after it. Kind of discouraging

There is no "proper" force fetch. If a dog needs to be force fetched it wasn't bred correctly and the trainer wasn't educated correctly. A retriever should not need to be forced to retrieve even if force fetching wasn't an idiotic draconian technique used only by cavemen who choose feelings over science.

They can, but you rule the roost. Set time aside for you & new pup, build structure and learning together and spend time tightening up the other dog 🍻
