I’d love to have heard him discuss The Almoravid album. Sublime work with the most progressive musicians from 1971.

Thanks for the upload. It was great to hear Joe share his thoughts. The Blue Note jukebox section confirmed my suspicions. Thanks for teasing out the Medina album with Hutcherson. I wish he’d spoken more about the post-bop jazz era of the late 60s / early 70s. that Joe was part of. That to my ears was the high water mark of jazz and Joe played on so many very remarkable and progressive albums of that time. I would have loved to have heard more about the philosophy of spiritual consciousness of what drove that era of music and how they view that from today’s perspective.

This is a great interview. The only thing is that when he starts talking about what mics and where he used to place them on those recordings the conversation quickly takes a different direction. I guess it depends on the recording but what were his most common practices when it comes to micing drums in that mid to late sixties period on those Elektra recordings?

Go and listen to any night of the fall 79 tour, so apparently after the first tour Billy spoke to Brent and told him he really needs to step up and bring it.. the rest is history.. the man is not even a year in the band and starts guiding some of the jam section.. listen to 10/25/1979 shakedown street! Brent fucking slays it

Given the subject is Mr Feiten, that the interview is invaluable is inevitable. Your interviewing skill moreover unearths material that otherwise would remain buried. I've remained a most ardent fan since Butterfield published Keep on Movin in 1968 when I also witnessed the band at the Fillmore in SF. Your revelation of Feiten playing with Gene Dinwiddie, Dave Sanborn and Bernard Purdie on Don Cooper's 1972 What You Feel is How You Grow is an unexpected bonus. Found this obscure vinyl on eBay. Can't wait to listen to that which but for your journalistic acumen I would remain in the dark. Thank you, Jake. Great work! Gratitude is the Attitude.

Mike's explanation of *analog vs. digital* reproduction is correct. However it has nothing to do with tubes versus solid state, as there are plenty of analog solid state amps (and the first computer was analog using vacuum tubes :o) The key question is, "When does the resolution of the digital approximation of the analog waveform exceed the resolution of one's ear/brain system?" In other words, "When does it become truly impossible to hear the difference?" I would say the best current digital equipment (e.g. a good $5000 DAC) is already there. But cheap digital and mp3 can drive me right up a wall for exactly the reason Mike points out - it just doesn't sound right, because there's *too much* information missing.

Rock as a Jazz-flavoured cheesy food-product overlaid with pompous, sneering vocals that punch down sarcastically at 'little people' culminating in a decades-long fart of a guitar solo aimed at his open-mouthed and gullible audience. Thanks Frank.

Leo Hollister MD was part of an incredible amount of research throughout the 50’s & 60’s with LSD, Red Oil (Delta 8 & 9 THC) along with a numerous other molecules. In 1997 Leo did follow up interviews with a number of the first Psychedelic drug investigators or the first wave researchers in Drug Research. I have the video of his interview with Stephen I. Szara who worked for NIDA.

Curious what Jim thinks of Andy Weil & his treatment of Richard Alpert at Harvard when he tattle tailed on Richard to the department heads. I can’t recall if Ram Dass was at the Halloween weekend Mushroom conference up at Brietenbush in 1999. Andy was there and mom & I cant recall seeing Richard talking to Andy at all… in fact I’m not sure that Richard ever forgave Andy for what he did to Richards career at Harvard….(??)
