I do not agree fully with the idea that our circumstances of life are due to our faith or lack of in the pre earth life. I think of you use this idea it will butt heads with the more relevant teachings of king Benjamin. If we let Dr skinners idea go to far we could end up saying to those in need that they brought it upon themselves and not act in a Christ like way. There is a need for explanation here and the scriptures he cited dint hold water for me in the way he wants. Also I have not heard modern prophets teach this in any significant way.

Apparently we didn't explain this very well. I do think that our pre-mortal life affects what we do and are here, but I 1000% agree that we can't tell anything about pre-mortality based on where and how we come to life here. I am sure there are amazingly valiant people who come into this life in all sorts of different circumstances. I am sorry if we didn't convey that well. Thank you for pointing it out.

Swallowed up in the joy of Christ for me means, swallowed up in the peace Christ brings. Facing my own life situations, things don’t always turn out the way I expected, wanted or hoped but if I think celestial, there is always a feeling of peace that only Christ can bring. Thank you for another great podcast.

When Jesus Christ died and shed His blood for us is the greatest covenant, He ushered in Gods grace for all those who believe in the biblical Jesus. Without His grace we have nothing, and it is all because of His will that works through us. We can do nothing without Him. Jesus is significant.

Thank you for doing these weekly podcasts. I really enjoy them. I especially enjoy the ones like this week's where there is a lot of personal application. We are reading the CFM verses each week so we don't need a recap of what we are reading. You do a great job in these podcasts of not just recapping, but rather making the scriptures real through personal application. Thanks again.

Thank you for this discussion. It helped me to make a connection that I hadn't done previously. I suspect Ammon has confidence because of verses 10-12 in chapter 17. He knows that whatever happens, all will be well. I've thought that because when I decided to serve in the military I prayed much to know if I should. The Spirit was guiding me in that direction, but I needed direct confirmation - which I received. I faced many trials, but did so with confidence. That confidence was because I knew that whatever happened, the Lord was with me. I was the only openly active member that my comrads knew (in the case of one, the first positive example). For the first time, I have made the connection between the confidence I had with Ammon (and his brethern/brothers). #gratefulforTSAR

As I was reading Alma 27:34 tonight, I noted that it names the four sons of Mosiah as Ammon, Aaron, Omner and Himni. That makes me wonder if Ammon was the oldest after all and that’s why he blessed his brothers and the others who had traveled with them. Maybe birth order had nothing to do with the people’s choice of Aaron to be king. This podcast got me thinking….thank you.

Kerry Muhlestein indicated the meaning of Anti-Nephi-Lehis may be "not-Nephi" Lehites. In other words, those not descendants of Nephi but still descendants of Lehi. That is an interesting interpretation. However, Alma 17:19 seems to indicate that those in the land of Ishmael where Ammon was preaching are descendants of the sons of Ishmael who became "Lamanites." So it would seem that they are not descendants of Lehi at all but of Ishmael. Or did I misunderstand what was said?
@rochelleholmquist9259
@rochelleholmquist9259 9 күн бұрын
This may be way off but maybe this could help. I understand that the sons of Ishmael were possibly married to Lehi's daughters and the sons of Lehi married the daughters of Ishmael except for Zorom. So most of their children would be descendants of both Ishmael and Lehi.
@bafalaska492
@bafalaska492 8 күн бұрын
Although among modern Jews, a determination of Jewishness for children comes through the mother, Lehi, Ishmael, and their descendants lived in a patriarchal society so the dominant lineage identification would be through the patriarch. This is indicated by naming their geographic location as the Land of Ishmael and that they were descendants of the sons of Ishmael. Of course, children are the descendants of both their parents. But who the sons of Ishmael married is purely speculative.
@TheScripturesAreReal
@TheScripturesAreReal 3 күн бұрын
That is where it started, in the land of Ishmael, but the later story is many, many more people than that, and they all considered themselves Lamanites, regardless of whom they descended from.

I have wondered for years why Ammon was "the chief among them" (Alma 17:18) when Aaron appeared to be the eldest. The thought came to me this morning that it might be that the tradition Nephi started by appointing his brother to be a priest to the people continued in the line of kings, and that Ammon was the one thus appointed.
@TheScripturesAreReal
@TheScripturesAreReal 10 күн бұрын
That really could be it. There are so many examples of it not being the oldest who God chooses that it is hard to know what to think of it. Nephi may have been making that same point. Good thought.

Another possibility regarding "Lamanitish": this is 3 generations from when King Mosiah the First left the Land of Nephi and the Lamanites took over the land. Lamanitish people may have been descendants of unbelieving Nephites who stayed behind and intermixed with the invading Lamanites.

Ben was so the perfect person for this scripture block. The last two episodes have drawn out so much of what is at the heart of Christ’s suffering for us, and these events are recorded in the middle of the Book of Mormon, in other words at the heart of it’s testament of Christ.
